hard drives keep crashing at my house

the desktop pc had 2 hard drives with the second one backing up the first one + had music. the back up hdd started having bad sectors so I bought another drive to replace both dirves, as soon as I make a clone of the first drive it dies too.

2 weeks later the lap top hdd dies (the hdd was only about 6 months old). the only way I can use either computer is with linux on a cd. :17:

This is why I strongly recommend installing fresh from OS CD. A bad image will only create issues on the new drive and leave you scratching you head.

Being in the business I have to make sure things are done right and done right the first time.

Back up data. Boot direct to OS CD. Delete ALL partitions on drive. Recreate one new partition. Format partition and load OS.

Are you getting BSOD (blue screen of death) or are you getting some type of error about Windows not being able to boot?

Make sure after you clone the primary that you set the partition to 'active' or it won't allow to boot from it.

maybe take the computer to somebody elses house? it must not like it in yours?

oddly enough I think I had that same problem. after I installed the new stuff windows would not load. I couldn't get it to do jack - Rob figured it out. it didn't have the drives in the right order in bios or something. I am useless with this stuff. I am just happy I assembled it all correctly and bought all the right things.

on the desk top it has bad sectors and wants to run check disk and can't fix the problems the boot drive just isn't recognised.

on the lap top it shows the dell splash screen then goes to a blinking cursor

Scrap the drive that does not even show in the BIOS. Scrap the drive with bad sectors or try to use it I guess. But only after booting to OS CD and deleting all partitions and creating one new one.

On the laptop.....same thing....boot to OS CD and delete all partitions and re create one new one. Then format and follow install instructions.
