handle pole cutting question

OK. I have an AC aluminum handle that I thought was -2" when I bought it used several years ago. I wanted to take another 2" out of it... so when I pulled it off last night I decided to measure it up against a stock pole I had layin around... guess what, my AC pole is STD length.

That said, I have a question or two:

1. where is the best place to remove a few inches (bottom of pole or the top from the bend area)? You can see the red lines where I was originally thinking about cutting... but now, I am unsure.. top or bottom.

2. since I have been running a stock length pole now, should I just remove the 2" I thought was gone, or should I take it down to a total of -4"? (I'm 6' tall, running UMI, 0 degree bars, and I am thinking about a lowered bracked too).

3. if anyone has a -2" pole they want to trade for a std length pole let me know... I plan to have it cut and welded sometime over the next few days.

why did you think it was -2?
i think if your cutting it cut the weld out@ the top then re-weld it

I could have swore when I bought it that the seller told me it was -2... I guess I was wrong, probably cuz I was just so happy to finally get one.

I was thinking that too... remove from the top. I just wasn't sure where they usually cut from.

ok, so I looked at this post http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/330 which cleared up the amount I plan to cut out... I guess I will cut out 3" - 4" from the top part of my aluminum pole, in effect removing the bend from the pole altogether making it pretty much a straight pole.

I know there's a lot of reading... sorry... lots of questions:

OK. so I got my std length AC pole cut -3" and repowder coated. 1st, thanks to Performance1 for a killer job bro.

Now, I also installed a Wamilton's lowered bracket. I am now having a few issues though, so maybe one of ya'll can help me out.

1. I'm using my Riva spring, the same one I had been using with the OEM bracket and std length pole. the problem is it now has a lot more spring to it... in other words, that damn pole will stay all the way upright, when before it used to settle about 1/2 way up. Is that because the lowered bracket is keeping a little more tension on the spring? In the first pic, the only reason it's staying that low is because I have a bungy holding it down that far.

2. When I pulled the pole off a few weeks back I didn't mark anything down, and for some reason I am drawing a complete blank on the spring itself... I think I might have it in upside down. But when I tried it the other way, I could barely pull the pole down at all. Does anyone have a pic of their spring placement?

3. I also opened up the hole a little and installed a breather hose up the handle pole. I bought a 1 3/4" pool hose from Home Depot, and it's pretty rigid however, it is bendable and I can flatten it out with some pressure. Do you think this is also aiding in the addition spring tension that I am now getting?

4. Would I be better off using the 2 bolt set up like X-metal does or like my Pete Jacob's square nose conversion bracket uses?

I would say sell the AC pole and run the www.xmetalworks.com pole.

I thought about that too, before I even cut my pole. However, I didn't want to spend any more $$ just yet... since I am in the middle of a square nose project, and since I alreay did a bunch to my round nose over the past few months.

Is that what's on your new ski Pete? Does it use a spring or the 2 bolts? If two bold set up, how do you like the feel of that?

Besides, I am hoping to convince my wife that there's a complete WF hull, hood, and X-Metal pole coming for X-Mas this year....

I love the setup, It improved my flatwater in minutes.. :bigeyes: and I am sure
it will help in the Surf.... Its all good.
That will be a really really good christmas...

Solid bro. Can't wait!! Hey, you going to the races in Jersey? I think it's one of the Eastern States Cup events. My buddy is coming up there from Mobile to race, so I am thinking about coming down for that one.

Clinics and freerides are the only thing that would make me miss one. let me know what race and I should be there. region 8 has 2 promoters so races conflict this year. give a shout out when you know whats up. Nice... still waiting on my HT and pro-tec modded CDI to get here. Until then, I'm dead in the water. Could take the blaster... but, nah... I'll wait for my SJ to be ready.

Might be getting my square nose painted next week.

If your have problems with the spring. You can do 1 of 2 things.
1. Cut the bottom of your spring about and 1 1/2"
2. Buy the spring from blowsion for the lower bracket.

I say don't remove the bend! It will make the position of the handlebars feel really weird when the handlepole is up. Just my opinion though...

Thanks... yeah, I thought the same thing and actually removed 3" from just below the bend, so I kept the same basic shape of the pole, just shorted it from the straight length.
