GRRR solenoid pissing me off

i have 2 solenoids, neither work, or at least they should, but they dont.

i have hooked the up with BATT+ and STARTER+ both ways (swapping poles, forgot which one is BATT), have good ground, and am getting +12V on the brown trigger wire.

i can jump the poles and the starter whizzes.

neither solenoid "clicks" however, even with direct 12V to the trigger. i just bought the one used from nikad on here... i believe it worked or??

what gives... i'm at wits end and about to install an automotive type relay to get me by... at least prove connections are right.

i just checked it by.. touching the black wire on the neg. side of a battery and the brown to the pos. it clicked.. i just checked another one the same way and clicked it a bunch of times.. try it that way and if it doesnt work i will shoot you another one..

if you have the box out and apart make sure the stator is grounded..

i wouldnt think it would matter which side the starter is on but if it does heres a picture ( i have never put them on the wrong side)

i have the elec box all cracked up and everything spread all over the place.

does something from the box need to be grounded? everything is connected/grounded.

i checked both the solenoids by hooking + and neg on the leads to the batt and surprise surprise they both work. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

took me about 6 hours with a multimeter, 2 solenoids, and 2 batteries but i finally tracked down a weak connection. solenoid was getting ~11V through it, but needed the full 12V to get it to switch.

cleaned/repaired the pigtail and now its getting full battery voltage and switching just fine.

love the smell of stale fogging oil burning in the springtime!
