grounding?

were do you guys usually ground your battery

ive heard flywheel cover bolt, and starter bolt, my engine is already assembled and in the ski so i would have to take the pipe apart etc... to ground to the starter bolt

i do most of my riding in salt water, so it seems like on the flywheel cover i could keep track of the condition of the terminal better?

am i worrying too much about this?

f/w cover bolt is the easiest. some will argue that putting it right against the starter will result in better cranking power due to less resistance. i dont think the huge block of aluminum that is your engine is going to offer much, if any, resistance.

Just thinking out loud:
I'm wondering if having it further away would promote corrosion in odd places.... I also would guess it could change resistance and make the stator potentially work harder and or less efficiently when charging the battery... I wonder if it could lead to problems down the road...

i use the hole that the stock exhaust bolts up to...right above the Bpipe mani bolt

devils advocate here...

technically speaking, what is actually metal to metal in that connection? I'll follow the path...

your chosen exhaust bolt connects to jugs, the 4 bolts on the jugs connect it to the cases only if you have a non girdled head. ADA would not work due to no jug bolts and Orings breaking the connection. So you are relying on bolts into the cases to cary your electrical signal, Right? What if they are dirty, have anti sieze, or lock tite on them? That would effect the signal, wouldn't it??

I can't imagine putting it anywhere but where it is suppose to be would work well for long...

I run a ground to the back of the starter, AND a ground to the front of the flywheel cover.

I have had instances where the ground to the starte has left me hanging, so I prefer a redundant system.

beats me..

I understand your theory...but my last 3 ski's have been this way with NO problems to date..none of the cables heat up while cranking, the starter is the same crappy one Ive been using for about 3 years now..

I copied the idea from butti's boat..no electrical issues there either

I have always heard that its supposed to go to the starter, but this seems to work just fine!

:dunno:
