Got a prop question.... Just built a surf ski, oem RN with a 61X/61X motor, single 44, B pipe Ltd chamber, MSD enh, 180 Comp head, running a stock pump....

I just put this ski together & water tested tonight, I haven't owned a 701 SJ so I'm clueless on the prop set up.... I tried it with a Solas 13/17 Concord, ski ran decent, great mid to top but a little doggie off the bottom.

But I'm use to riding big cc motors so it may just be how this motor hits, IDK

I have a 10/16 Hooker anyone try one of these with a 61x/61x SJ? Is it worth pulling the pump out to swap props..???

Any input would be great

man as far as i know thats one of the best props for bottom end with a lil weak motor

maybe bore the reduction nozzle to get it to unload a bit faster

I'm gonna swap it tomorr and give it a Try Thur at tona... If the 10/16 feels better I'll order a 9/15... No more big hp surf skis for me, well at least for now

Thanks JC/Boyer.

First bore the nozzle to at least 85mm then raise the trailing edge of the impeller .100". If thats not enough then hammer on the prop more or just send it to impros for their 13/16 mod.

I'm running a 62T Nozzle thats bored to 85.5 already, with Thrust Trim & Pro Tec steering nozzle bored to 87.5/88

Gonna try the Hooker 10/16 and see how that works

from my experience.... yes
what you want to do is once you have your desired powerplant and tune setup
swap props to get that last bit of tweaking that you like.
for me i've tried quiet a few props/pitches/cut backs

right now i am running an out of the box 9/15 hooker
i myself love the low end response/pop
so between the 13/15 solas and 9/15 hooker, i am happy

i've tried a 13/17 and WOW was it evil mid and uptop, but like you said, a little lazy for me response wise down low (that was with a 200psi motor)

props/ride plates/intake grates to me are all personal experience and trial and error

when i've done my testing, it was basically same conditions/temps so i could get as close of a comparison
again.... everyones taste is unique

i don't know if my old topic is on here (was written up years ago) but maybe you can find it and see some input

you are full of crap... once you go big you can't go back. Small motor won't feel right....even in big surf.

I'm really looking to stay low budget surf ski... I enjoy the big HP ski's, it makes riding a lot of fun & going big you just brap & your there. I know I use to ride a XS1000 as my surf ski... This oem SJ I built I want to keep it 61x/61x, my buddy Idok has this same setup and it felt great in his Rickter.

Will see what happens... I plan to build a glass Superfreak this spring that will have one of Chris's new BB motors..

Thank you for the input, I'm going to try & order a 9/15 hooker today... I'm really looking to stay with a low budget SJ surf boat, no more 8K+ motors for the surf for me.

you will like the 9-15.

Are you cylinders stock or ported?

Stock... I took this complete low time 61X/61X out of my wife's Blaster. I built her a bigger motor & thought the 61X would make a great cheap surf ski..

Will see how the 9/15 helps the bottom end, so far I was happy with it just a little slow off the bottom

You are close, my Skat-Trak 13/17 3mm cut back is decent, but doesnt have the best low end. I have a 62T/61X set up with enhancer, other than that it the same. I called Dave and he said the diff changing would be negligible, he said if I dinged it he would go with a 10/16 Hooker next. I'm interested to see what you think.
