Going from 701 to 760?

I know its been discussed before but there is not one straight answer in any previous discussion. I am currently running a stock 62t 701 next year I wanted to have it ported to wake it up, but then I saw some cheap 760 jugs on ebay and decided to pick em up the water jacket was cracked but my idea was to swap the sleeves into my castings (kinda like a big bore sleeve) I know that I could just bore the 701 up to a 760 (65mm right?) but this way I should have more room for future overbores correct? I ride on the river alot and we get some big waves to alot of the time Im not going for a straight off throttle hit but more planing speed, would the ported 760 give me better hp numbers than a ported 701 and how will the bottom end be?

for a 760 it is better to have the 61x ported and resleeved to a 760. the port heights are better for low end power where the 62t and 760's are more timed for mid to top end power b/c they came in larger watercraft..........sit downs.

Can porting take care of the less desireable low end?

Reason I ask is I got a set of 760 sleeves (whole jugs but the castings are junk) for dirt cheap of ebay, they are stock bore and look like they have maybe 20hours on them.

It can certainly equalize it a little bit....but all things being equal, the hit of the X cyl will come sooner than the T cyl.

Don't read too much into me looking for that topend. I would simply like to have another cylinder to try some porting out on. Also, I dont mind having spare engine parts around.

Paul told me a 760 can be prted to within 20% of a 61x big bore. He calls it a poor mans big bore.

I just bought one. The cylinders will go to Paul for porting and a lightened 61x flywheel/stator will be used. Paul said he runs 195 psi on pump gas (94 octane) for this set up.

Porting will make the cylinder flow more air and make it more responsive all around b/c of that. Just a good port job will help everywhere but if you want to change the powerband itself start with a 61x cylinder. That will set up up for better bottom end right there. For even more power and displacement do a LPW Big Bore 61x that takes you out to the 760 sleeves. LPW does this mod and they are great motors.

I"m willing to share my porting with you guys...

Mine hits very hard. it's like a switch.

it's a 61x/760 combo. it's currently disassembled so it'll be no prob to get some measurements and pics.

Wow!.... I would like to see some of those pictures Tim.

What happened to your engine on Sunday?

Uh oh. Maybe I will be buying some tools and trying it myself.

Can't wait to see the pics. I would think 760 cylinders would need more than a single 44 though, right?

I guess I won't name any names for now but I'm under the understanding this port job was designed by a company in florida that doesn't deal with PWC anymore (all MX now) they've got a out standing rep.

Bah. I think the 62T cases are limited by the crappy Kawi 650 Single manifold.
I bet that a Watcon manifold or the ATP manifold make it work great.
In fact, NJFL is running a 9xx cc ADA cylinder on a single carb with great success.
