glassing question

Well i just installed my footholds and got them all glassed in on my 94 sn. I used a polyester resin though and i was told it may delaminate.

Is that all i have to worry about? What do you think the time frame is before it starts delaminating? And before i turf it should i grind everything off and redo it with epoxy resin?

Thanks,
Shane

Before I knew any better I patched a hull with poly resin and glass. It held for about a year before it let go. But, ithe patch didn't see near the amount of stress foothold will experience. When the patch let go it was evident that the only thing holding it in was a pure mechanical bond. I would expect your footholds to last no more than onecseason before they start to leak water into the hold and/or let go altogether.

If the top deck of a square is the same as a round nose it is made out of poly resin and that poly resin around your foothols will be fine, its only the bottom deck (SMC) that you HAVE to use epoxy on.

WRONG. SN tops are plastic. Ridgid injected metton, if I remember correctly. RN tops are fiberglass. Either deck should be repaired with epoxy resin. Poly does not bond well with either. The SMC also need epoxy resin for fiberglass work, but SMC panel adhesive can be used for filling gaps.

Vinylester is slightly better than poly, but mosly because it's more flexible. It still doesn't bond nearly as well as epoxy. But I'm sure you asked for advise so you could ignore it, and hear us all say "blah blah blah, I'm a dirty tramp"

I think he was asking about the vinyl resin b/c he already has a supply of it, not to just ignore the advice of others. I would also want to know if I would be able to use a supply of material I already own rather than purchasing new materials.
