Im currently running the sharkfab girdled bolts and think they would be better then Ada's style but.... What do you guys think

It does not bolt the cylinder to the cases, but sandwiches the cylinder between the head and the cases. Therefore, there is no pressure on the base of the cylinder.

I'd gladly trade you new in the wrapper ADA's for your sharkfabs. Regrettably, when I had emailed Sharkfab back in the day to order some, I did not get a reply. I'm sort of old fashioned and like to keep my base gasket clamped when removing the head for o ring R&R.

I understand that but their claim (ADA) is that it protects further from cyl cracking because of "true sandwich the cyl." anyone believe their claim ?

I don't know about the claim, but it makes sense. And riders seem to agree.
Keep in mind; the sharkfab set-up is also a true cylinder sandwich once the head is torqued. Maybe it's better? Allows the head to be removed without risking an air leak or broken seal between the cases and the cylinder.

I currently have the ADA set-up. But I like the other.

x2?

Blowsion uses the same set-up as sharkfab, are there any other kits that use the ADA style?
Ive honestly never looked that close at the kits before, never noticed there was even a difference
What style does ATP use?

I don't agree with above...

From ADA:

"6 stud girdle kit for Yamaha 701/760 and Yamaha 1100/1200 ADA billet heads. Includes 6 stainless studs, 6 stainless washers, and 6 chrome acorn nuts. The only true girdle system. It does not bolt the cylinder to the cases, but sandwiches the cylinder between the head and the cases. Therefore, there is no pressure on the base of the cylinder."

"no pressure on the base of the cylinder"? Geez, how's my base gasket supposed to seal?

Last time I pulled my head it was on there pretty good, if I hadn't of had the sharkfab style I'm positive I would be replacing the gasket at the base of the cyilender as well, but that being the only "issue"? I've never heard any negative feedback on there set-up

kommander ind. By far has the nicest girdled hardware I've ever seen. Never bbean so excited about a bolt lol

they are talking about isolated bolt pressure around the bolt head on the base...besides many many guys change ADA o-rings w/o base gasket issues...never had a problem myself.

similar to shark fab but beefier, better quality stainless and flawless machineing. I got a complete set and an extra coupler bolt for like 75$!!!!! Plus their customer service is top notch...

I agree that the ADA style is a true girdle system. However, I would also think that doing such a simple task as removing the head now requires you to do a leak down check on the engine again. Since many engines have been ridden very hard for many years without cracking, it's clear that a true girdle is overkill and just a basic girdle will be more than sufficient. On the flip side though, the ADA girdle is much easier to install and can be torqued properly. All the other girdle styles require a box wrench on the corner bolts on the exhaust side because the raised portion for the exhaust on the cylinder gets in the way of a socket wrench.

.....im confused.

read the 2nd to last sentence in post #1 and then read post #4.

if it does bolt the cylinder to the cases then its like comparing apples to oranges when compared to the ADA kit.

If I'm not mistaken, the original problem was the un-supported b-pipe. I've seen a few pics of cylinders that broke, but they were broken in the manifold area. I was under the impression that this was the reason for the girdled head to begin with.
Were cylinders also breaking at the base?

riva used to make a girdle kit like this but the base bolts used to break.

the problem was the upper part of the base bolts were drilled and tapped too far and made the metal too thin and prone to cracking and breaking. IDK if these other companies have addressed the problem.
