Gas resistant paint?????

The paint on my motorcycle tank pretty much shrivelled up and came off. Luckily it is under the gas filler cap and you can't see it. However, it is rusting really bad under there and starting to creep up where I will be able to see it soon.

Is there any spray paint that I can use that will hold up to the constant gas fumes under there?

The appliance epoxy has held up pretty well to all the crap that has come in contact with the inside of my hull. If you let fuel sit on it continuously, it might stain but it'd be tough to see discoloration on black. I'm sure there's something else out there that is much better like anything with a clear coat but this is a fairly simple and readily accessible solution.

Even if the paint is fuel resistant it will winkle under Gas caps because the fumes get trapped in there and get UNDER the edge of the paint. mask off the paint so you dont get ay (or sand it off) on the part of the tank that sticks up a bit for the cap. then use a paint brush with some 2 part epoxy to seal the edge of the paint.

I use Urethane based top coats and clears. I am constantly overfilling and my top coats never shrivel up. I prefer Nasson Finish for clears it hardens up like glass

If you are looking for a paint that's going to resist gas that comes in a spray can chances are you won't find any. You need to buy paint that uses a hardener / catalyst and you will also need to first use an epoxy primer sealer. This type of paint does not come in a spray can.

Any way you work it out, your going to have to shoot it with an air gun using an epoxy based primer, then base coat it with urethane, and clear it with a urethane based clear. this will hold up the best out of any.

When I painted custom bikes we used Hot Hues (Dupont's premium line Nason is their cheapo line) an with certain gas caps it would still wrinkle under the cap.

I was hoping for a different answer. I will have to dig around my automotive paint selection and see what I have. I might just tape it and brush it on since it is down where nobody will ever see it.

I would assume on a '06 Kawasaki would have used a base/clear so I'm not sure anything I use will be much better.

Wonder if I could just spray bomb it with engine paint and then just brush a real thin layer of west systems over it??????

go to lowes and get some Appliance epoxy paint. It is resistant to fuel. I had it on the bottom of my ski for over a year and it was very tough stuff. It goes on really nice and doing big areas it melts in good....

It's the best paint you can get out of a can that is not professional grade.

You can also get pro-grade clears at your local paint and body shop that are in spray cans. I highly recommend Dupont CHroma-Clear in a can. Have used it a bunch of times and it flows out good and is no different that what you would spray out of a can. These clears will go over any spray can paint, so just do the color then clear over it for gloss and to protect it from fuels. Make sure the color is flat though or the clear will not stick.

Are you people :):):):):)ing kidding me? Brush 2part epoxy (glue, not paint) under the gas cap so the fuel fumes will not soften the paint under the cap. Maybe i didnt make it clear that I meant epoxy glue....

Go to your local R/C hobby shop or order from www.towerhobbies.com and get some fuel proof EPOXY paint in a spray can. I cant remember the brand but its resistant to nitromethane and gas. It comes in many colors, you may be able to get close to the color you need.
