Damn ...
Alright, so I picked up the hulls from Nick today, and the paint looks NICE ...
These pictures sort of suck, but they were the best I could do right now ... the first shows the flake, the second just shows my mess of a garage.
Those aren't scratches in the paint, just dust and pollen ...
When I cracked the hull, I hit the bottom in Daytona and that broke 3 of the 4 motor mounts, and the engine was almost loose in the hull ... and apparently the mid-shaft housing needs to be replaced. No pics of that, as you can see, the super jet hull is sort of buried under and behind everything else.
So I'm all excited to start putting the engines together, and pull the stock head on the Super Jet ... and what do I find, MASSIVE SCORING, and light coating of rust on the cylinder walls.
My fingernails catch in the score marks & grooves in the sides of the cylinder walls, so it looks like I'm going to have to send the cylinders out to be bored, get new pistons, rings, clips, etc ...
This is getting expensive.
On that note, got a question ... I have a 701 Riva Girdled head with 35 cc domes that hasn't been installed. Since I have to go bigger on the bore, I'm thinking going from 81mm to 81.5mm isn't going to cut it, probably have to go to at least 82mm or maybe even 82.5mm pistons. How does that work with the domes that are meant for an 81mm bore?
I guess I'll be pulling the whole motor apart just to check things over ... so it looks like I'll be out of the water even longer.
