FX-1 Fx1 carb issues

Hey fellas, Just bought an fx1:arms:! The bad news is it has a issue with what I believe is the carb. First off, what is stock jetting? The guy I bought it from said he changed to a bigger jet, but its a stock ski? I have a 138 H and a 115 L I believe. What the ski does is it fires up good and once you gas it it accelerates well. As it gets to the mid upper rpm range its like you hit a brick wall, you have to let off and run lower rpms and then its a dog til it dies. Once you start it, its all over again. Runs hard for a few seconds then back to putting. Maybe I need to change my fuel filter? I took my carb all apart and didn't find much wrong. I did have some trash in the little filter on the fuel pump side. Also, not the big clear diaphram, but one of the smaller ones has a small tear in it, would that make a difference? My compression on the ski is 150 on both cylinders. Ive also tried tuning it out with my high and low, nothing better. Whats the factory setting on the high and low? Im stumped:dunce:.

Welcome to the FX-1 world. Hey, before you go crazy you should clean out the entire fuel system (remove and dump the tank, blow out all the fuel lines, and replace the big fuel filter too). Also re-build the carb then start from there. There could be 14 years worth of crap lurking in the fuel system.

Do you have a aftermarket pipe on it?

Yeah it kinda feels like fuel starvation. I'll clean all the fuel lines, the tank, and change the filter and see what that does.

My ski is bone stock besides a pro tec ride plate.

I was kinda bummed not getting to ride it much this past weekend:eek:uch:.

One of the previous owners also blocked off the on pickup and just run a fuel line straight off of the reserve pickup bypassing the fuel selector, im gonna put it back to what its supposed to be, not having a reserve is not good for me!

Im gonna build this thing come winter. I would like to eliminate all the purple with some fresh paint, some turf, and maybe footholds.

crap you guys are pulling off the purple and i add more. i must be doing something wrong!

Sjaholic, will you come do my turf for me? Your turfing is a work of art! For a purple ski thats beautiful.

I was riding that sn last saturday riding on the hood some. I really haven't done much of that, but once sitting on the pole I would gas it and you know what happens, id roll backwards and land upside down in the tray, haha. One time that happened plus I shifted to the right and my shorts caught the finger throttle and was WOT, I went for a ride! Done my first barrel roll! The ski and I spun under water:doh:. A couple of my buddys on couches got a good laugh.

I like the purple just fine (maybe not that exact shade, but nothin' wrong with a little purple). When I get my home-built tubbies done, then I'll actually get around to painting it. Purple (more of a magenta shade) will be a big feature of the paint scheme.

If you were real manly men, you wouldn't be intimidated by a little purple. I do figure that the purple might keep some of my local guys off the boat, which means I won't have to share as much!

No way will you ever talk me into giving up my pink! I have all kinds of pink in my ride gear and I usually have more luck getting the big boats to trim up and slow down than the guys I ride with. I just wave at them while wearing pink board shorts, pink rash guard, etc, and give them a slow down a little signal, and sometimes a trim up signal, and away we go! Instant 4-5 foot, consistent, smooth waves to jump!

Once we start putting on a show for them, they are more likely to trim for us the next time. We've have a significant number of boats at our regular ride spot that will throw down for us. I also make sure to thank them when we're done, throw a few kisses, etc. Works like a charm.

all you have to do is get rid of the pink and purple and put some sweet stickers on it. If you add the racing numbers, it gives you two more mph's!!!!!!:bs2::bs2:

I bought this ski off hardcore, and he said he had the carb rebuilt a month ago. He pm me and said their might be water in the gas. He said he was filling up last time he rode it and a big wave splashed right in! Haha. So the truth comes out:spank:! After he told me that I drained the whole tank and spilled a little on the garage floor. The gas beaded up like crazy on the concrete. I think I found the problem. Now I need new lines and filter to be set.

That reminds me of one time this past season. My wife and I was going to the lake and as usual, tnj was getting excited. I was filling up the skis and forgot to put the cap back on the conversion ski. My wife rode it all over the lake and she finally noticed the cap flopping around up front. I tried to blame it on her but it didn't work! It got just enough water in it to bog around all day.

No im just messing with the purple skis. I think mine isn't as pretty cause its the stock purple and its faded some which makes it look like a pastel easter egg. Its gonna be solid white next season with b stock turf and a nice yamaha blue hand pole. Gonna do the same for the sn sj, matching skis!

Umm my sn has a pink quad finn ride plate thanks to sjaholic:pokey:! Everyone that sees that asks what in the world it is and why did I buy a pink one??

Thanks to all the fx1 heads that responded. I didn't know if there was some majic yamaha button I wasn't pushing?? Being the genius I am I should have found this already.....jk. I always look for the complicated things first:doh:. Ill let you guys know what I think of this thing when I get it to pull me.

Round 2 with the fx1

Took the little booger back to the water today after I cleaned the tank out and pulled the filter off(run it without for now) put new fuel in it. I didnt start it at home cause I didnt have any gas. Got to the lake and the thing is in worse shape now than it was! Maybe I jacked up something in the carb, but it wont start unless you choke or prime it and you rev it and it pops/backfires loud. Sounds stupid. I took the tank out and inspected the water box cause I seen stuf fly out from there when I reved it and found that the hose going to the box wasn't even tight, I pulled it off with my hand. I tighted everything, put it all back together and still the same, pop pop popout of the carb. My conversion was popping out of the carb and blowing flames, it was the flywheel key sheared. Im gonna take the carb off my sj and swap it to see if its a carburator issue or not. What footholds do you guys prefer on these small skis? I took it home and punished it for being a bad ski today:spank:, I stripped all the purple off of it!

It's going to look good without all the purple. Oh and i'm running rickers footholds on mine. You should do footwells to open up the tray alittle bit. Wish i would have.

Nice ski:love:. Did you paint your trim white? Mine was all purple. I see your fire ext comp is white as well. If you painted it tell me what you used, im gonna keep my fire ex comp so I would like it white instead of purple.
