FX-1 riders input/suggestions/pics

I have some questions in regards to FX-1's, and hoping for some detailed pics to make installs easier/simpler for me. Not very creative, but mechanically there.

First off, the steering so far sucks. I moved the cable to the 2nd slot towards the outside on the turn plate. What else can I do/suggestions?

My pole is loose at the top, it moves back and forth inside the bracket! Should I shorten it at the top or only the bottom, and if so, what epoxy/screws/rivets or other methods to make it strong again?

Need to install hood straps, where exactly did you guys mount them, my SN is done and was simple, but no idea for the FX-1.

Limiting rope, where to drill on the stock plate or mount options? Just want to see what people are doing/works best.

Anything else, besides engine mods, chime in. i.e. cheap mods, free mods, especially steering/handling mods etc... Already have plans for footholds, turf, and tubbies, and cut a D in the ride plate.

Thanks,
Chad

Ive got my steering on the outside (quickest) hole - which needed to be tapped. To do that you need to adjust both ends of the cable.
I think I'd fix whatever is loose first though.

Remind later me I'll fine some pics of my hood straps.

I feel like I hvae been saying this alot lately; Mod that nozzle! Drill a hole as close as you can to the inside of the nozzle. A dremel or some type of grinder will make this easy and helps a lot.
Don't shorten the top of the pole, just remove it and glue and rivet it. But I would shorten the pole 2 in from the bottom.
My hood straps are bolted to the back side of the nose piece. I'll get pics later. I'll get pics of the limiting rope as well.
Shortening the pole is a cheap mod and makes a big difference in handling.

Stainless or aluminum rivets. As for glue there are several choices, I think a lot of people use 3m 5200, or you can use resin with a West systems 404 adhesive. I recetly found some stuff at West Marine called Epoxy Putty that is very strong. Sant the surfaces to be glued, put the putty on the surfaces and put them together. While the glue is drying install the rivets.

Just curious........why do you guys take the length off the bottom instead of the top?

I just took 2" off the top of mine and it kept the curve in the pole following the hood line. I would think taking the length form the bottom would change that?

So top or bottom? Top would be the easiest right now:cool2: Does the handling change between cutting from the top or the bottom? I'm also only
5' 6" and just switched to 0 degree bars. Flash and LBE can you post pics of your cut poles.

Thanks,

Chad

I think that the pole usually comes loose at the bottom, therefore you will be working on the bottom anyway. Obviously not the case here (my top has never come loose). On the top I guess you could take off about 2 in, but more than that and you will be to the curve in the pole.

iI'll get some pics this afternoon.

Pole pics, then a pic from the top to see where the bars sit.
The pole pad is shortened so it may change the way it looks also.

stock pad, no foam..right?

I mocked up everything in my fx last night...motor is done, baby pump in...Bpipe fit with NO massaging

just have to fix the gas tank, align the motor and dig thru boxes for electrics....

quick and easy, and it only took me 15 months to build it :cool2:

I need to make hood straps for the wifes, thanks for the ideas and inspiration LBE

I made my hood straps from an old life jacket! I think it was an old JP vest that was ripping. Recycle!!

stock pad, no foam..right?

I cut the plastic base about 1 in from the front catch. I also cut the sides shorter. The sides are almost cut level with the tabs for the side mounting bolts. I then used a single layer of HT pad and turfed it. Cut the edges at 45 deg just like doing the rails.
