SXR Fuel Trouble

Hey,

I am new to the jetski world and I have just recently bought a sxr-800,
that has been bored out to 850cc and also has a top speed impella on it as well.
Apart from that the rest of the engine is stock, I bought the ski like this.
I took it out for a ride the other day and it went through the whole tank of fuel in less then 1 hour!
Is this normal? My friends stock sxr-800 last for about 3 hours on 1 tank of fuel,
I took the head off last night also and there was a little bit of a carbon build up so it is running a bit rich as well.
Surely with an extra 50cc and it running rich wouldnt make it burn the fuel twice as quick as a stock 800-sxr?

If anyone knows what could the problem be either it be tuning or something to do with the prop you input would be appreciated :)

Yup those 800 love the fuel. I think its because they stay hooked up so much.

If your riding hard for an hour I wouldn't say that's not normal. Make sure the ski is tuned properly.

These skis are also notorious for leaking around the fuel selector switch. Check to see if there is fuel inside your hull when you ride. Anchor it up near the shore and make sure there is no oily leakage coming from your ski.

Yup^^

I know with my 650sx, if I ride hard I go through a gallon a whole lot faster than if I just put-put around. Watch out for fuel in your hull as ice mentioned. I had this happen once when the fuel pump got a crack in it, that is some scary :):):):). Your ski turns into like a propelled bomb. If you think about it, you just have this fuel air explosive contained in your hull, with tons of wiring and battery connectors leading around, so watch out for that. Though you should just be able to take a sniff and smell any fuel leaking around.

Welcome to the forum also

3 Hrs sounds like a stretch, Little exaggeration there maybe? My SXR (which is completely stock) burns through a whole tank in about an hour. SXR's drink fuel when compared to SJ's. Of course I'm usually on the throttle the whole time. When I putt around I may get an hour and a half
