Thanks, Im from western Canada, Alberta its been snowing for the last two days, I hope to get it finished this weekend because the following weekend is our last ride of the season... In my experiences even from your first post I would have tried your coil first... Check for a consistent strong spark on both boots with the same plug, if anything looks funny change your coil, Trust me just do it! Compare to a buddies ski if you can

Precisely at the moment when I thought I had figured this problem to be related to my coil/wires I got the chance to borrow my buddy's Mikuni 38's and throw them on my ski just to make sure. It runs fine, idles good, braps, everything is fine and dandy with his carbs. So... now I'll spend some time taking his carbs apart (obviously with more finesse and awareness than I had with my own) and figure out where I went wrong. At least I have it narrowed down now. Thanks for everyone's help in getting to the bottom of this.

Disassembled my buddy's carbs to compare them to mine, mine were identical so I reassembled mine and threw them on my ski. Now it runs fine with my carbs. Don't really understand what it could have been other than a plug wire problem (don't think it was a stuck needle because I cleaned it 3 different times while troubleshooting). Ordered a new JSS coil/wires from Chris just to be safe. At least it runs now, and it runs good. I was able to take it out to a small lake nearby and freeze my pills for a few hours yesterday. Here's a few pics. Thanks for the help guys. I'll get it tuned better this spring when the water isn't 50 degrees, or when I invest in a wetsuit.

without checking your popoff you have no way to tell what the aftermarket spring is and im willing to bet that when you changed those you caused your problem. changing that popoff is just about the same as changing jet size. so if it ran perfect and you added larger jets..it wont run perfect anymore now will it? glad you got it sorted enough to ride before its too cold.

In post #15 I measured pop-off for both carbs at 47-48 psi with the 95g spring.

Glad you got it sorted out for now. Hopefully the problem is gone for good, those intermittent problems suck. Keep in mind that cold air = leaner mix, so be careful and I'd agree...wait until warmer air in the spring to tune it right.

yes I saw that, were those the ones you initially had installed after the rebuild?

Yes, once I did the rebuild I kept those springs in throughout the troubleshooting. Once I measured their pop-off as identical in both carbs I wasn't worried about the springs being the problem anymore.

so then do you think you assembled something out of order? and then redid it correctly. it would be good to post up so others with similar problems can find answers.

I didn't change anything on the carbs, just took them apart and reassembled them multiple times. I think the problem is in the wires, but unfortunately I cannot say that in absolute certainty yet. I bought the JSS coil/wires from Jetmaniac to make sure I eliminate this possibility. If the problem returns I'll update the thread.
