I am totally in line with your thought process!!! The only thing I would like to add would be 2 runs and the better of the 2 runs is what counts just like they do in X games and so on. If the riders had the oppotunity for 2 runs they could do what they are good at the 1st run and try to go big on their 2nd run therefore steppin up the game!!!

Or just add them together.......

Now it will be interesting (if theres video of the routines) to apply this, and see who won.....

Pat and i both used the format he posted, we sat there counting the tricks and rating each trick. There were 6 judges that day. But sounds like only 3 this time.

But, every year there is something to bitch about....

Bottom line, there is no format.

Well after just wataching the vid. I would have placed them
1 Ratti
2 stoyer
3 lustic
4 Parr
I think Ratti had the cleanest run by far with nice height to his rolls.
Oh, and Gil clean your boat by the front exhuast. It looks like crap

I'm happy with my 4th place finish. Sure, I would have liked to have done better, but I'll just change my routine for next season. Something to look forward to.

Pat, I like the point system you posted. I thought that was pretty cool and seemed to be a fair way to judge things. :fing02:

I'm sure no competitor would mind, and it would do away with slighting our new Pro Champion.

Please don't take it as slighting Michael. I think he's a great guy and rider, but his 2 minutes was far from any kind of a routine. He did 4 different tricks, barrel roll, no handed barrel roll, 360 spin, and backflip, and none of them were linked together.

I just don't like that style of 'freestyle', he's just going for a few clean big tricks.

Take a peek at this guy: http://www.superjett.com/jetski-vid...mission from IJSBA/2003_Havasu_Pat_Bogart.mpg

I don't disagree with you on the variety.

I think it was kinda like the olympics... whoever has the cleanest run and still goes big. I think Ratti pulled it off. Congrats to him!

I like Bogies point system. Except if you REALLY WANT VARIETY, use that system and make it so you can only get points for the same trick once...THAT would add some variety and make it more exciting to watch!

Hey Pat, if a email came from you it might not fall on deaf ears. Could we talk you into shooting Mel and Young a email w/a format to use for scoring and a recomendation for 2 runs? You have done sooooo freegin much for the sport that they would probaly listen to you.

Would anyone object to me saying that there is something to be said for the kind of setup your running?
I know from riding an 850cc set up and a 1000cc set up that there are a huge difference on how difficult it is to perform different tricks depending on your set up.
Big air tricks such as flatwater backies are much harder if even impossible on an 850cc set up...
By the same token, hood tricks and such are MUCH harder to be performed on a 1000cc set up. A rider may be limited on what kind of tricks he/she may be able to perform on a more powerful set up as well...
My skill level is not as advanced as a pro rider, but I know after riding a 1000cc ski, that I didn't see how I could even stay on the hood. It would be very difficult.
With that being said, I think the rider's set up has a very large depending factor of what kind/type of routine they would perform.

I for one couldn't agree with you more.

wow...this is kind of silly...i remember this same complaint about malone's what...05 world finals run? 06 maybe?

maybe what you guys should be complaining about is how the entire freestyle comp is run? lets break it down...

no standardized judging...judges pulled from the crowd right before the riders go to compete...prize money worth anything?

personally it has always seemed to me that freestyle has been treated as a circus sideshow to the racing...when in reality racing draws less of a crowd than freestyle does, or rather draws less of a response from a crowd than freestyle does...

now, i am about to piss some people off. and let me preface that by saying i like mike young alot, super nice guy, awesome to party with, etc, etc...but...but...he runs a crappy freestyle event, and i don't think patrick mell does a much better job.

it is very hard to take competition freestyle seriously when you have the announcers going to "boris the russian judge" in myrtle beach or a judge who had never even touched a ski in lake norman two years ago...and its sad that everyone, racers and freestyle, pay to enter and compete and there is never, ever any chance of a return on what they put in to do that...

alot of people will say there is no money coming into the sport...bs...people are too lazy to go after it...the great thing about an underground sport is that you can wow the world with it, even people that saw it 10 or 15 years ago are stoked to see where it is now in terms of tricks, equipment, etc...people who have never seen it are blown away completely...

i congratulate ratti for winning...and i think that his routine, or lack there of in some peoples eyes, is more a function of the way the comp is set up than the way everyone chooses to ride...

simply, the riders ride to the crowds because they know the judges are a joke (whether they want to admit it or not)...if the crowd goes "ooohhhhh" they can almost guarantee a good score...push your promoters to do a better, more organized job and you will see the runs change...

congrats ratti...you earned it bro!

lol, now i never said i was a good promoter...i am just a good armchair quarterback...and video will always be my first love...

and yeah, this is usually how i get myself in trouble...

i just think the status quo needs to be shaken up a bit...

me and madoyster were talking about an all surf racing national series the other day...that would be sick...

freestyle comps with some obstacles for you guys to hit would be pretty sick as well...

My opinion now is that w/Bogie behind us we can improve things quite a bit! Now, if we ALL push hard and WORK at it some, we CAN make a difference!!! The key word is IF. SO, lets do this and make it better!
