Super Jet Footholds install! Could use some help.

I bought some motocross style ride pants from Slippery and I love them. I've never had an issue with skin irritation, I also use either high cut dive boots such as the Akona Titaniums or I found this nifty pair of Adidas neoprene shoes that work alright too. They are def. not as comfy as my old Akona dive boots and offer much less ankle support but their ok for now. I do plan on getting a new pair of the dive boots though, I pulled my left ankle last season and whatever I tore, every once in awhile it flares up. Never had that problem with the Akonas, it was just that extra little bit of added ankle support they offer that probably saved me from going through it before.

Yeah you probably don't have any skin irritation because you cover up your legs :p.
I'll try out my wrestling shoes sometime but for now I'm going to ride barefoot.

I'm about to finish up my order from us composites, should I even bother ordering some foam? Because if I don't order it now, and I buy it later, I'll end up paying double due to the shipping cost..

as i said before.. i wouldn't refoam... that's just me... to do that little bit of foam i think it would be more of a pain than anything...

tevas make an awesome wake skate shoe called the gnarkosi that work awesome for jet skiing. lightweight, comfy, and they drain really nice. I bought mine after a referral on this site.

I didn't know teva carried stuff like that!

Anyways, since I'm more of a barefoot rider I'm going to go with flat turf on the sides and holds, along with molded diamond on the bottom of the tray and bottom of holds. Unless anybody else has any other suggestions on what turf combination :)

And the flat turf has decent grip?

Yup, flat turf has decent grip, but it's only on the sides on the gunwales so it doesn't really affect grip at all, just makes it nicer when your legs hit the sides. I used to ride barefoot, but after trying shoes once I'll never go barefoot again, especially with footholds.

I also have those exact same Teva gnarkosi's and they're great, the cheapest I could find them was on sierratradingpost.com. If you sign up for their dealflyer, every couple of days they send out exclusive discounts where you get an extra 35 or 40% off usually. I got my gnarkosi's for about $30 I think.

Once you get footholds, its a matter of time until you break a toe.

As for the turf rubbing on your skin, say goodbye to your leg hair and hello to turf burn.
From my stock sn turf and learning how to ride, I have scars on the outside of my legs from it rubbing my skin raw :p

So if I had flat turf on the top and inside of the hold, but diamond on the bottom, that'd be enough grip?

do you plan on standing on the side of the tray? you need grip on the bottom where you stand.. sides aren't really where you need the grip... just pad the top to fit snug around your foot/shoe/what ever you have on your feet... and you'll be fine with smooth turn

That's not what I mean, I know the sides of the tray don't matter much for grip, but I'm wondering if the flat turf inside of the hold with diamond on the bottom of the tray/hold would workout good with barefeet.

I'll be using toby's oldstyle holds, along with 1inch underpad(I can shape it under my feet if needed if it's too much) and probably some pad on the top of the holds too..

you've gotta realize pad collapses... 1" pad can squeeze down a lot... to get your foot to actually be tight without shoes you just as well run the top pad down until it touches the bottom pad...

Alright, I found some pics of when I did my install. I used the tape measure to have an equal distance for each hold from the front of the tray. Although that worked out well for good measurement, I found that I should have went back 16 inches instead of the 14 shown in the one pic. I only posted that pic just to give you an idea of how I measured up my placement. You will see where I had to re-cut my holes because they had to be moved back to 16 inches to clear the exhaust tube on the right side. I only scraped out enough foam to get the hold to tightly fit in and whatever there was for open space, I just stuffed bits and pieces of the original foam back in there to help take up the room. Once the holds were in place, I used I the stainless screws, #10's I think they were, then glassed over the screws and all around the edges, plus the tray as mentioned before. The other really nice thing about using the Dremel with the cut-off discs, is that you can pretty well get down to the tray level and not have a lip to grind or file off as you might if you were to use a jigsaw. And as you can see, the Dremel doesn't get hung up or chip or break away bits from the hull like a jigsaw does. Oh, I forgot to mention, in the first pic, that cut out was just big enough to get the hold to go in toe first and wrap around behind the template. I tried to keep the template cut-out as small as possible so I only made it just slightly bigger than the hold to get the flare on the front to press up flat to the template. When I first cut it out on the hull and fitted the hold into place, it was rock solid, I wish I would have drawn the outline at 16 inches back the first time around lol.
