I have air tools, but not a angle grinder... do I need to sand the entire tray down??? I thought I just needed to do that for the holds, then scuff up the rest for the hydroturf.

I might go to sears and get an electic angle grinder?? or maybe one for my compresser. what is the circular twist lock pads??? certain kind of pad or name brand thing??

You do not have to sand through the gelcoat bro, ist polyester based just like fiberglass resin so whats the difference, scuff it, glue it , screw it, sand it and glass it, done, believe me the hardest part ahead of you is turf at this point, its much easier than you think. The part will pull to the boat, use lots of screws and screw the touching part 1st. :sadwavey:

I Sent wammer pics... he said there ok, aslong as the cut outs are the same depth... I still would expect perfect matching side, at least the humps that cover your feet to be the same! I hope I like them when I ride.

Werd! Get 'er done. The gelcoat doesn't need to be totally sanded off. You're using epoxy resin, scuff that baby with 40 grit and seal er up!

I would only use 2 layers on the tray. I don't think it needs 3 unless your a big chunker or go off like yamaslut or petey.

ok I got them glued in and the holes filled in!!!!

now I just gotta fiberglass over the holds, and then in between in the tray.

So I planned on 3 layers around holds, and 2 in the tray?

Should the layers over lap, meaning each layer gets bigger then the first? Do I have to wait between layers for it to dry?? I never laid glass so I have no idea. I know I dont want to use to much resin... any tips would be great!

After you sand around where you glued them in to smooth the edges you can get by with a couple of layers of 6# cloth strips around the edges. If you use epoxy resin with the fiberglass it won't be stinky but you will still have to wear gloves. Epoxy won't burn your skin like polyester but if you come into contact with it too much it can cause skin & health problems with too much exposure.

Post up some pics of your progress, sounds like you are almost done!

I have been using gloves. so just lay around the edges, do they have to be bigger each layer, so it over laps?

and 3 and 2 layers sound ok? I just want to get them wet enough not to much resin right?

then once its all done should I sand it all smooth?

man then I got turf...

Yep small strip & then a bigger strip that overlaps will do fine. You wont have to sand too much, just the rough edges. The turf will hide any minor imperfections. You don't want to sand through the cloth you just layed down. Cut all your strips out first and fit them up dry and then wet out the cloth on a piece of cardboard with a cheap bristle brush, you will need alot of these. Lay the wetted strips where they will go and use the brush to tap them down to get any air bubbles out. Lay up all the strips you cut out as you dry fitted them and let it set up.
