Foam between CF reinforment and hull?

I rode that ski a feq times and I always thought that ski was heavier than my pig SN. Thats a fun ski though....especially after you do its gastro bypass surgury! Save and weigh that crap you scrape off

The saga continues. This was just the tip of the iceberg. The tray was even more magical. It all had to come out. I'll post a followup later with pics. The tray was just under an inch thick. Ive never seen an aftermarket full tray replacement but it looks like someone glued 2 whole trays and a piece of sheet metal on top of the stock tray. My blades were barely long enough to get through the glass. There were about 5 times when I thought about tossing the hull and buying a better foundation hull. But I think I got it to a usable state. Oh you know how some people are lazy and crush their exhaust pipe a little to fit footholds in? This one was crushed to less than half the original diameter. Actually I might have one pic on my phone. The first 1/8in in the pic is the stock thickness. 20190209_175904.jpg

Since so much needs to be ripped out you could consider a wide tray when you rebuild it. The exhaust tube is crushed so one of the only reasons not to do a wide tray is out of your way since you need to buy a new one, you can lower it when you reinstall it.

It sucks you got stuck with a mess but you can refurb it.

I want to know who originally built it.
Well I was told it was a wamiltons hull with visual cf reinforcement. I don't think the person I bought it from "built" it so I don't want to reveal the seller. Hull has some history for sure. Someone mentioned earlier that the weirdest part is this person obviously had the knowledge and tools to do it right but made crazy decisions at every turn. There were exactly 4 different types of foam, 5 if you count what was in the engine bay. Blue home depot poly, "great stuff" white spray foam (waterlogged), blue spray foam (waterlogged) and a little of what I would guess is regular 2 part closed cell because it wasn't waterlogged. I filled an entire contractor bag to the very top with the tray scraps alone. The bag was 45lbs. I weighed it. (NOT INCLUDING THE TRAY AND FOOTHOLDS I CUT OUT!!!!)

It's funny you say that, that is exactly what I was planning. I was debating lowering the firewall exh hole, getting a properly angled exhaust tube, or putting in 2x 15deg silicone couples with tbolts. Thoughts? Going to fill tray with pink home depot poly and uscomposites 2part for upper gunwales with 2x versiplugs at bottom.
I don't think I want to buy footholds because at this point, there is so much glasswork I might as well do it how I want and make them myself. I saw someone on here made kind of a foothold ridge thing that seemed like it would be plenty for lake erie riding. I won't be doing any backflips on this. Rolls, yes. Think this would be enough? (see attached pic from this thread http://www.x-h2o.com/index.php?threads/wide-tray-is-it-worth-it.139863/ ) Maybe he can comment here if he thinks they were worth it :) @MCrider download.jpg

That is a cool ski, I have read through that thread multiple times. Different people are ok with different levels of "lock in", some like straps, some footholds, some are ok with a wide tray and a front toe hold and nothing else. On my ski I am making a wide tray with beefy solid glass gunwales and a massive toe hold, not because I plan on having rear holds but I am making sure I am ready if and when my riding evolves to the point where I may need or want them.

Your plan is sound, measure twice, cut once, and try not to overthink it either.

Do you have any pics or anything that kind of shows what you're planning? Hard to picture it. toe hold - like a front foot hold against "dashboard" that I see people have?

The thread in my sig is the link to the ski I am referring to. Its about 6 pages so buckle up lol. The toe hold stuff is on page 6. Some come into the tray, mine goes into the engine bay through the dash.
