Flipping couches for fun and profit

I am supposed to be recovering seats today , the guy brings me this, I had already seen pics of it and I passed on creating a new cover for it, the old cover is too degraded for a decent pattern and these seats are a monster, I told him to get a new OEM seat cover and I would install it .

The seat gets here and it has about ten lbs of water in it , the foam is glued to the base and it has slots in it that webbing with plastic clips goes through to hold it down , it was supposed to go out today but there is no way to make that happen, it has to fully dry out before I can install the new cover , and the bottom has to be completely dry to stick it back down with contact cement, I am not looking forward to this one , like I said it's a monster .

I found a brand new tire mounted on a rim that matched the one on this trailer , so yesterday I demounted one side and put in a new valve stem then put it on the trailer, the trailer light kit came in today so by end of the day I will have the bunks recovered and the lights installed , both rims had the lug nuts put on backwards , well at least they were tight lol.

I also have this GTI seat in to recover, I am trying to save the yellowish green piece, that color will be impossible to match up.
I take the wet foam and put it down on a couple old towels on the shop floor. Then I jump and stomp on the foam to get most of the water out. Then set out in the sun until dry. 2 days tops.

I pretty much do the same thing , it's basically dry now but I will give it another day .

We have thunderstorms in and out of here like everyday so I have to keep putting it out in the sun then back in before it rains , I finished one bunk yesterday but the other bunk board looked sketchy , I can probably cut it off and use it for a 5 footer on the other trailer.

I installed the new light kit , this morning I went and got a bunk board for the other side , the light kit came from Amazon , $25 for an LED light kit with wiring .

That second trailer was sitting in the woods with a 96 GTX hull sitting on it, trees had grown up around it and I had to cut it out , both tires were separated from the rims so I winched it out with a winch on a UTV I was working on about a month ago.

It need new tires, possibly wheel bearings , bunks and brackets , a winch strap and new lights and wiring , tire get here tomorrow $57.23 a pair from Ebay , I have to order another light kit but the last one got here next day from Amazon.

I NEED to be working on that SUV to flip this season...........but instead all my 'SPARE' time is still going into my son's house. I just finished up installing the 2 dormer windows. That was AFTER I built a little stand with legs so I could actually sit up there on the 12/12 pitch roof!!

When you get done there come on up to my house up by Lake Martin , I need two dormers put in there as well , I don't know why I want them but I want them .

We had a few places come by giving estimates on a new roof here , the first one was $15,000 for a roof over with corrugated metal , they didn't go up in the attic to inspect for leaks or damage , the second one was yesterday, they did go in the attic and look around , there is some decking damage , there estimate was $45,000 for a new composite fiberglass roof and all the decking repairs , they use high pressure sales tactics which do not work on me period and duh we want a metal roof which they said they can't do on the 2 /12 pitch on the porches , no thank you sir . The 15k estimate is out the window due to the damaged decking.

It's beginning to look like homie is going to be doing some metal roofing and decking repair this Winter , I may have to hire a helper but I point blank told him there is no way I am paying $45,000 and not get exactly what I want , I know for a fact that corrugated metal will work with a 2/12 pitch, hell it will work with a 1/12 pitch , we are wanting a Chevy and they are trying to sell us a Ford , it's not going to work for me . I will admit their roofing system is slick but I fail to see the point of a $45,000 roof on a $150,000 house , it's ridiculousness.

Anyway enough house rant , back to the trailer , it's finished , I got the bunk cut down for the other trailer and I just got the hardware for it as well , on the subject of hardware , if you have a Tractor supply near you they are the go to place for hardware , they sell it by the lb.

All of the hardware for the bunks , 8 lag bolts and four 7/16 bolts and nuts was like $5.00 , you won't find it cheaper anywhere else.

First trailer is done , I ordered new bow stops for both trailers from Amazon today , on the second trailer the bunks are done and since I cut a 5 ft bunk out of a 10 ft board I went ahead and did a spare bunk for future use . I ended up covering 5 bunks from the one roll of carpet, if I hadn't fully covered the bottoms I could have gotten 6 out of it , what can I say I want like I want it .

Tires come in later today, winch strap tomorrow , then the second trailer will be usable to get a ski off the ground if nothing else .

When I was at Lowes last week I spotted this pancake compressor for just under $80.00 out the door so I snagged it , I had been looking at cordless tire inflators but I just couldn't pull the trigger on one , this compressor is a lot more useful to me to power nail guns , staplers and brad guns , it allows me to work inside when stapling up a new seat cover and yeah it will still air a tire up.

I have had a couple of the Harbor Freight compressors and they usually last me a few years , I figure this one has to be at least as good as Harbor Freight .

New winch strap came in , I put it on the bigger trailer and put the old one on the smaller trailer , with that done and one new tire installed I can get this 97 up and off the ground, it doesn't look half bad sitting on the trailer , with some new seat vinyl ,some more footpads and a lot of detailing it just might make someone a decent ski.

Once it was on the trailer it was readily apparent how bad the sponsons, grab handle and handlebar cover looked , I hit them with a torch , it didn't do much so I regrouped and sanded them with 400 grit sandpaper , after that I used Penetrol on them, this is just after one coat and it needs about three or four good coats , on the steering cover I did hit that with the torch again then the Penetrol , if you look back at the post above this vou can see how much difference it makes, that's about 30 minutes of work maybe.

Sorry about the pics but it really is that bright here right now.

Doug got a call yesterday , a guy with a 94 Kawasaki SS750 wants to trade it for a 99 GTX 951 , even Stephen , what color is the sky in whatever world these people come from ?

That's maybe a $1000 ski , on the weekend end before Memorial day and nothing else is available lol.

Hopefully next year I will get into some of the for fun and not for profit builds , on November 19th I become semi - retired , which means two things , these builds will most likely become my primary source of other income and most of the repair side of my business will go quietly away , I will still continue to do simple jobs , oil changes , Winterizations , impellers and wear rings, carb jobs , upholstery etc , basically the jobs that make money quickly and with little to no hassle or drama .

My goal is to do at least one flip ski per month next year , that will of course depend on the individual skis I am building , I want to clear $25,000 on flip skis, which is the max amount I can make and draw Social Security without a penalty.

I have a stack of various builds I want to complete on standups and sitdowns , a Yamaha blaster ll , a pristine Waveruunner LX , a Wetjet 432 and many others , some either already have or will get individual threads but the sitdown stuff will be posted here on this thread , I also have a bunch of motorcycle , ATV and UTV projects to finish up , my goal is to get all the UTV stuff done this winter some for profit but most are for my personal use and collection..

I wish I could do more to some of my flip stuff sitting here. My yard's been looking like this since July 4th holiday. For every couple fixed, a couple more show up! At least I'll have money to live off of this winter LOL!

Maybe once I retire I will come out for a week and help you knock some of shizz at out , after I get everything here wrapped up of course .

I always wanted to gp out to Bill Oneils shop , Watercraft Magic and work for a week but it never worked out , RIP Bill !

dam ... thats some nice inventory ..... i got 9 super cheap sit downs and have them all running just one more 1997 GTS left , and only one sold .....

gotta ramp up advertising for labor day weekend , after that its all storage till next year ... :( .

I sold this lady a single trailer for her 650 SX , she said her mechanic friend helped her getting it to run .....

Then after the weekend she called me and said if i would be so kind to take a look at it , its not running right .....

besides all the other crap they messed up , the tank lid was pinned down with Styrofoam and the plastic filler broke >> zero tank seal ...

tank vent line vented into the water separator bowl and then was blocked of on other side ....

but i didn't even get started cause it was over after the compression test , dead hole ......completly f d piston .... thank god i got that little camera helps save so much time and avoiding to having pull the head all the time.

So I ask myself , who was the mechanic friend that helped her put in BRES2 spark plugs on top of all the other crap ...

After i gave her the verdict , she said keep the ski its worthless ..... I offered to take my single trailer back and return the money to her, i really needed that single trailer anyway ..... she was quite happy and i think morally just the right thing to do.

and just felt bad , since the ski is basically junk.....
