ok so I have been practicing flat water barrel rolls, they are getting around but I can't seem to get it to the plate, and get my body above the ski. Let me know if you have an idea on my technique, different setup wake, more power? ha this was a friends 701 61x stock, with B-pipe, solas impeller,a shiny new AC Pole and footholds

You're not turning the bars. You're throwing yourself off the side of the boat, as opposed the spinning the tail up over your head. Listen (and feel) for the clunk of the bars as they hit their stops. Once the boat leaves the water, the pole should be ON THE HOOD.

K ill really stress that today ridin, I have read alot of forums on how to do them, but until I can have someone critique what im actually doing, im not progressing, so ill try harder to turn the bars to full lock and put the pole down, and suck my body up! thanks

I've just finally started landing a few on the plate, like 4 plate to plates, and thousands of 3/4's, lol. The biggest improvement I made was making sure I turned the bars all the way, and not trying to muscle the ski around, let the ski do the work. The best ones I've done has been when I was relaxed and just tucked up and went along for the ride. I also noticed a big improvement in my height, and the difference in being able to ride them out or not even with a little past 3/4 when I started carrying more speed into the setup wake. I try to let the wake build a little more now, and get a just little more distance from it. It's a little harder for me to time them now with the faster pace, so I find myself just skipping across the wake instead of dipping into the pocket and up the lip sometimes.

Listen to geek......he even used to roll my old waterlogged square. I can't really do much better than you on flat water so I'm not in a position to give advice, but I agree.....It looks like you are trying to throw the boat too much instead of just letting the boat spin around you. I know that is hard to envision. I remember my first really good surf roll. The backend got really loose going up the wave and I thought it was going to get ugly, but the opposite happened. The boat spun so quick and tight i couldn't believe it.

surf rolls are almost easy, big wave turn and tuck shoulder, try not to come out of the footholds....

horrible technique for a barrel roll ^^^^^^^^^^^

nose down tail up....work on 180 stabs then inverrtted 180 stabs

I do it every time before i think about rolling
just tweak a few other things going in to make it not 180 stab

Can someone post some videos of a mostly stock ski with good technique so we can all learn? I don't want to be studying the wrong thing.

I'm going to be making a new freestyle video this weekend, I've also been thinking about making a couple of proper 'How-To' video on Barrel Rolls and a few other tricks, with 2 HD Go-Pros and a video camera from the beach, so i'll probably be doing that on Saturday, and posting the video next Tuesday.

Excellent idea, it would be much appreciated by us learning.

As you hit the wake and crank the bars, Drop your elbow/shoulder into the direction of the roll. At the same time, lead with your head, pretend you are trying to look under your ski. The ski will follow. Also, going slow, will mess you up, try going a little faster than you think you need to. Like Geek said, get that pole down low. Also, once you get inverted, keep your tuck. Many of us want to "reach" out to the water with the pole. This slows your rotation down.

Having trouble opening up like me, use two limiting straps on the pole. When you want to roll practice with the short strap that makes you keep the pole down.
