For anyone thinking of going to Sebastion Inlet in the next few days or week or so I would post pone if possible.

I was there yesterday and it was gross. Probably 500,000 dead fish. They apparently just died within the last 24 hours. It wasn't super smelly yesterday but I could feel fish going through my pump and several times I had to stop to pull stuck fish parts from my intake grate and out of the pump.

Monster Hole was really gross and just outside the inlet there was huge mats of dead fish you had to either ride through or find a way through.

Once you got about 1/4 mile North of the inlet it was ok but from the boat ramp all the way out past the north side Jetty was gross with dead fish.

I'm sure in the next few days it's going to get horrible!!!! A fisherman who was out by the boat ramp said at one point on Friday the surface of the entire inlet was white with dead fish. It must have been an impressive bait pod!

is it the "red tide" ? I experienced a similar event on the west coast...the smell was gnarly!

Apparently the huge giant pod of porgies got into the shallow lagoon water and suffocated when they ran out of oxygen. Lagoon water has a lower dissolved oxygen level than ocean water. Plus the lagoon is very shallow in areas and a huge pile up of fish could easily use up all the oxygen in the pod causing many to suffocate.

It's happening all over the world, it's very very strange. Birds are also dropping dead in the 1,000's.

What, like the whale sharted out all the fish than died of embarrassment ?????

i burst out laughing in my office when i read this earlier !

I saw this happen once about 60 miles north of here on the Maine coast. A massive school of poggies got chased into an inlet and it was litterally knee deep with dead fish. After that came the flies. I don't envy anyone that camped at sebastian state park that weekend
