Removed to learn how to diagnose and tune. Ski had extreme drive ability issues. Should have this figured on buy end of weekend.

Should I install hoodstraps? Pole limiter?Footholds?

Would my hockey helmet be a bad choice? I tried my dirt bike helmet. I hope to put a poopload of hours on the ski at free ride. But my neck was killing me after 2 hours.

Any other suggestion would be appreciated

Sorry for the long post
Thanks
Mike

Limiting Rope and Hood straps. I popped my hood latch the second jump last year in Daytona. It's saved me many times on Lake Michigan!

Get a good tow rope and tow Loops front and rear.

I sprayed most of my engine compartment down with WD-40 before I rode in salt. Flushed it the last day by riding Lake Diaz. My exhaust temp sensor acted up on day three(limp mode SXR), just unplugged it and rode without issue. It had bare wires showing.

Make sure your ski is running good before you put it in saltwater. If it ran poorly in fresh water, then salt will be 10x worse. Then you wont know if you are chasing a ski related problem or a salt related problem. Footholds and a tow rope are a must.

^^^^^^^ THIS!

Do not attempt your first surf ride with a ski that barely runs! With 300 other riders its choppy as hell. You are 100% guaranteed to sink it within 5mins, and end up sitting on the beach with the hood off the whole weekend...lol No one wants that. Get it running right ahead of time and check over all your wiring. Then you will only have a 50% chance of sinking it. LOL!

Most common problem for us fresh water guys when we drop our skis in the salt water is coils. Your ski might run perfect in fresh water, but in salt you can be running on once cylinder within minutes.
Yes, hood straps and limiting rope really are a must. Bilge pump as well.

Have bilge is it work pu

Have bilge. Coil looks decent was debating on ordering an ocd before trip

Riding with out footholds always freaked me out. I had a buddy come out this year in the first freshwater surf we had on his 650sx 750 swap. First wave he launched the ski just dropped out from underneath him. Lost his footing and landed gooch on the rail came in and was pissing blood for a week. You don't want to come disconnected from the ski launching a lip and having the back side of the wave dropping out from under you. I always felt footholds were a must.
