Sooooo i finally get to take out my Superjet today. Runs good.... BUT.... I hardly move. Engine revs, I barely get close to being on plane. I thini my prop might be too small, its a solas J K or I, not sure..... I forget. The couplers and shafts inside the engine compartment both spin fine, Im thinking the drive shaft from the prop to the short shaft inside might be bad, or right in the pump itself.

oh, well when i put an advent in my boat it wouldnt rev out all the way. a prop shouldnt make THAT much of a difference where your boat has no power. whats the pitch?

It just feels like regualr old cavitating, but I cvant get up to plane, once it gets close, thats it.

I even tried easing into the throttle slowly but still, I got denied. Im unsure of my pitch, Like I said its a Solas J K or I, not sure.... but it was on a stock boat so it should have been a lower pitch, and I shouldnt really be having a problem with it unless something is stripped, which really sucks the ding dong!

You need to pull the pump out. Then you can inspect the condition on the splines on the drive shaft (comes out with pump) to see if they are stripped and also check on your prop size and for any signs of cavitation.

I plan on it. Come to think of it, waste land reminded me its a prop, but it ws on a stock 650 motor, i swapped to a 701..... it didnt even cross my mind. i also have a speedwerx dry pipe. DOH

Post the things that are done to the ski. Sounds like it is cavitating pretty bad. Have you done anything like a cone or bore the nozzel. What kind of grate are you running? Do you mean the pitch is to low or the achual impeller is too small like you have the cumberland gap inbetween the blades and housing  Maybe you just sucked up a stick......thats what mine does when I have debris in the pump.

what about that rubber seal at the front of the pump?

did that get screwed up when you pushed the pump back in?

the mods shouldnt make it spin that easily.

you should still be able to feather it and get it to hook well enough to plane out.

whats the blade tip to wear ring clearance? ( assuming it wasnt running right before)

Before you go nuts, pull the pump & check the seal, some of the old ones were split & the seals pop loose. all it needs will be a new upgraded one.
inspect that first

Yeah, before you buy anything just pull it apart and make sure everything is OK. You would need quite a bit of power to spin the impeller like that.

my clearances of the prop seem perfectly fine. The only mods are a speedwerx dry pipe, and its re jetted. It has a solas prop of some pitch, unknown right now.

Im pretty sure the seal went in ok, but it MIGHT not have, I will check it later tonight or tomorrow when I pull the pump.

I really dont think anything is stripped at all. I can see light between the pump housing and prop, but jusssst a bit, no more than my sxr

Had a couch that did the exact same thing. It was a rock or chip in the Impellor, cant remember. But it was IDENTICAL to what you describe.

Waste can vouch for this. The first ride on my sj in my sig and it cavitated horribly. Ended up being a totally destroyed midshaft bearing. It was destroyed to the point that I found balls and pieces of the races in the hull. Needless to say it was sucking air like mad through the midshaft assy and did what you are describing. I doubt it's your problem, but it never hurts to check.

so, wait... do you mean the mid shaft will spin, but it wont catch on the prop shaft? cuz if i let off, it will push the boat. seems to me, that if anything is stripped, it would not catch at all. I guess if the bearing is bad, its possible it can only hold so much pressure, speed, and the it lets the shafts spin
