"FINALLY DONE" -41lbs 2003 SXR 800

So she has been riding a Blaster 1 for the last couple yrs. Finally got her on a stand up through the summer and now she had to have one. I had put her on my SJ but that was a bit rough for her as the power comes on hard and fast with the T/S motor in it. So she rode a couple of others and started doing really well. She then rode my buddys wifes SXR and fell in love with it so..... we now have on in the stables. 2003 SXR. In definite need of some TLC.
Firsts thing first was gutting it. Starting weight, dry tank with battery installed 376 lbs.

Afetr getting it gutted, started on the Jenny Craig Plan. This is a inside joke as Jess is a Jenny Craig Dietician/Consultant. Any how After removing the side bumpers, railcaps, old stock matt, rivets, rear plastic trim, all of which will not be going back on, threw them on the scales and weighed 10lbs.

Weighed the hull empty completey free of anything other then the bilge pick up, hull wieghd 137lbs. Hood weighed 22lbs. Lastnight did some de glueing of all the excess squish out from the mating of the upper deck and lower hull.
Any one who has seen inside an SXR should know what I am talking about. LOL!!!
I just did the sides and around the front. Still need to do the front and rear of the bulkhead and the rear inside behind the tray. But with just the front portion I did it lost 2lbs more.:woot:

okay, so here is what I got done in the last 5hrs. I cut the tray all out. De-glued the sides as best as possible. I had not planned on going this far into the tray area but the more I got to looking at the situation of cutting the back 3'' I am going to need to remove the exhasut tube, and the two rear rideplate fittings to move them back. So this seems to be the only viable way to get to the glue that is holding the exhaust tube in the bulkhead; ofcourse its all glued on the back of the bulkhead. DUMB!!! KAWY engineers. This is going to be a pain in the but!!!!:banghead: So that will be the job for tomorrow.

I just wieghed the hull, Threw all the tray pieces inside and all the foam I removed from under the tray. So the only thing missing is all the glue I ground out of the bond lines and bulk head. Hull now weighs 129lbs. Down from 137lbs starting out. Before de glueing. Thats pretty substantial if I say so myself.

Today I got the exhaust tube removed quite easly, with the use of a 5lb sledge and 2x4:fing02: And then removed all the water lines, bilge line, steering cable tube, and all the inserts for the rideplate and intake grate. Once all of that was out I then proceeded to remove probably another 1lb of glue. I couldn't believe how much was gooped up around all the lines and tubing. And finally for the end of the day before I came in I got all my meaurements, and marks made:thinking: to cut the back of the hull. Going to go with 3-1/2'' off the back. Hopefully Start cutting tomorrow.:naughty:

Hey Brandon, can you do me a favor ? Replace fisheye lens on your camera with normal one. After looking at your pics I fill like some junki after good dose . LOL !!!

The foam was definitely damp. And there was water in the hull under the tray. But it was not soaked. "nothing close to what the superjet was like!" My gloves got damp removing it, but I could not squeeze anything out of it. I tried to weigh all of the foam and it would not register on my scale; it starts at 2 lbs. so I would say that it is still fairly light.
I'm going to snag my scale I have at work and re weigh the small light er stuff so I should know soon.

And about the fisheye pics, I can 't find my digital cam, so I had to use my GoPro. That thing sucks taking a regular photo. I can stand inside the ski and still get a 30ft radius shot. LOL!!! I couldn't wait any longer to get at this thing so I needed to get some pictures.LOL!!! I will try and get them with the good cam here soon.

Man, it's not a problem. Was just f#@%g with you.

P.S. It's still looks weird. LOL !!!

I know, and I do agree they look funky. I found the good camera and took some pics if the inside of the tray area all de-glued, and de-tubed, and some of it upside down ready for surgery. Maybe I can cut tomorrow. Didn't get to work on it today.

I finally got to get some cutting done, we now have a 3-1/2'' shorter SXR. Got the back chopped off ,as well as the rear bond line trimmed, and started doing some sanding on the bottom to get some gouges filled in and such when I start galssing here shortly.

On a different note, I had cleaned all the glue that was around the water lines, and bilge fittings, there was a ton of it. So I chissled most of it away and saved it to weigh. So..... I weighed it tonight on my smaller scale and just the glue around the lines weighed 1.294 lbs. Thats insane just to seal up the lines from water intrusion.

Been fighting this artic weather we have been suffering from all this weeek. I did manage to getthe rear all glassed back in. I have my exhaust outlet shaped and cut. Today I put in holes for drain plugs. and cut the bulk head for the oneway valve. Tomorrow cut the hole in the rear for the valve, and do a final prep sand for primer hopefully on Sunday.

Home from the paint booth

I just got home from spraying the bottom and misc. pieces with some Polyesther High build primer, this stuff is awsome. Baked for an hour at 144deg. she's dry but I will let it set for about another day or two just for some extra cure time. Then it's going to be sand city again, and back to the booth for a nice coat of black base coat and some clear, atleast on the bottom of the hull anyways :arms:

Update

Well it has been a while since I have updated so heres where I am at now. I got the hood modified over the last few days. When I started the hood it was bouncing back and forth between 22-23lbs never really settled, so high 22lbs I'm guessing. After I modded it; it now weighs 13lbs!!! Wow, thats less than my Superjet Hood.:twak: I have the inside all sanded with 400grit, and I'm just going flat black it, and cut a hole for another breather tube, and call it good. As for the bottom of hull it is all sanded and prepped for paint. I will be heading to the shop to spray it in a few minutes, so hopefully before I go to bed tonight it will be ready to flip over and start on the top deck. I will post more pics tonight. Disregard pic date. Its wrong DUH!!
