I've talked to the guy from Fiberlay over a few margharitas. He informed me & Phill that unless you're building airplanes, exactly which epoxy resin you get is utterly unimportant.

As long as it's epoxy resin. Brand doesn't matter.

Then you would have to worry what epoxy resin to guess...or drink more margharitas.

Wax,

My recommendation is to get the graduated plastic cups versus the pumps. I have used the pumps before and I obtain much better results using the cups (measured by volume). The pumps tend to suck air and the mix ratios tend to get fluky. Also if you plan to mix large batches of epoxy, the pumps will take forever compared to just pouring and mixing. Just my two cents.

Jared, you can buy the West Systems epoxy from a supplier in Melbourne. If you need the number, let me know and I'll dig it up.

I used West to re-enforce my hull with carbon fibre and also mixed it to form a paste and full holes.

Damn, I just spent $88 for epoxy, and $33 for hardner "west systems". The US composites stuff is half that price. West Marine is expensive as hell on everything, but I needed it right away. Next time I will switch and spend 1/2 the money for sure.

the only time i have had any air in the pumps is if they have sat awhile. push it until all the air is out, stop and let the handle come back up to fill completely with resin. good to go.

West Marine stores will bend you over and stick it to you with no lube on just about anything they sell. I priced some trailer bunk mount brackets from them and they wer 4x higher than I could buy them from several trailer supply companies via their websites. I will not go to West Marine unless they are the last resort.
