wow im happy i just found this thread..(been over at the "other" site for a while and finally signed up over here).....

i was wondering the same exact thing you were about product amounts kennay

i am doing footholds and want to reinforce under the pole and the bondline as well

i have an 03 roundnose(stock besides an intake grate now)... i want to try and keep it in one piece since i am riding the ocean more now(hence the reason for reinforcement)

would the suggested amounts of material for kennays project work for me....

oh and sorry if this is a thread jack kennay...just noticed it and saw it could help me out.

Although now that I think about it, the questions:

How many yards of 12oz biax do I need?

and

How many layers, on what areas should I apply it

Haven't been answered :D

The debate between using filler and foam, first off I've found everyone is over reinforcing their skis. You don't need 3 layers of 17 oz mat on it. One layer of 190z carbon has done the trick and those skis have taken a beating. Maybe if your rollin 50 feet in the air you might need more. Then how much weight is the 404 filler adding to the rail. The foam is far lighter and the whole point is to create a flat layer for the glass to lay on. Use a squegge to get all the resin out of it after it wets out. The hood lips seems to always be cracking so we foam that part to lay the glass right up to the top. Just do the same thing with the handle pole bracket area too fill the voids with foam and reinforce.

foam in the pole bracket area is a must.but the filler on the bond rails definitely adds strength.i wouldnt say people are over reinforcing their skis..it just depends on the application...a guy that rides flatwater on the weekends 5months a year probally dosnt need heavy reinforcement like i have but i ride in the ocean 3days a week year round...it just depends...better safe than sorry too..

Cool, thanks Frosty!

I have a couple final questions before I order (Hopefuly Friday, though I've said that for about 3 weeks now :( )

***************How many yards of 12oz biax. for doing the reinforcing on the inside, where handlepole bracket attaches, and footholds? I just need a nice safe recommendation, I don't mind having leftover, I actually want a little leftover.

*************** To make it looks good, I want to do the final layer on the inside of the hull with CF. How much should I order, and what weight to put one layer on the sides, and across the bottom of the ski (Up a little past the gas tank?)

Thanks so much!

And how much foam! Well, weight and how much. Just simple "for the record" questions here, I like to be safe. I honestly don't trust my judgment.

haha, xeon, maybe I will be on the baller budget like you someday! We can't all have money, a badass place to work on our skis, and perfect looking g/f's to go along with all that!

No way I can afford enough 19oz to do all that. I don't plan on doing flips anytime soon, so I think a thinner layer will do for me! haha

Also, there is no mention of quantity in there! How is a yard measured? Cubic or?

I just ordered all my stuff from US composites... got 3 yards 50" 1708 biaxial and 1 yard of 5.7oz 50" carbon fiber 2x2 twill. To find all other details read my threads on reinforcement.

If you want to save yourself the most time- call US Composites and have them duplicate my order for you. Enough stuff there to reinforce entire ski and have leftovers for a repair or two maybe.

Including shipping it was like $220. I over order everything though as I would rather have more than enough than fall short.

lol

but really you only need 1 layer of 19 oz... 1 yard will do you good.. thats all you would need.

You will need more than a yard if you want to put it on both sides, bottom, and reinforce tray as well as cut strips for misc. other reinforcing... I'm not a pro, but I have read a lot of threads... so I guess I know a little bit even though I have no real experience yet.... in the tech FAQ section on the very bottom post a guy throws out rough measurements of the hull. Buy more than you need... you can always use it later if you have extra....

a yard is 53 bucks i think... 2 yards + all the resins for me came to 165....

i reinforced, i wrapped my old pole, i made a CF jewelry box for my g.f. , made a half ass intake for my ski, started to make a custom holder for my navi in my car, and i STILL have ALOT left over... 1 layer does so much!
