Factory Hole in stock exhaust on SXR

On my stock SXR exhaust there is a small 1/8 to 3/16 hole in the exhaust tube where it connects the rubber hose to the rigid exhaust pipe where it goes through the firewall. My buddy who has an 03 sxr doesnt seem to have this. Is it supposed to be there and can i plug or seal it some how?
It lets enough exhaust out to the point where the underside of my hood will get nasty and start turning black and im getting sick of cleaning it.

yea im sure it is taking oxygen away. I can see some exhaust smoke flow right down my carbs when i run it on the trailer. Seems weird that my ski has a damn hole in the exhaust and ive yet to see another one that iis the same. oh well atleast it is easy to seal.
