Yes always wear a helmet. But the reason you are smacking your face is likely because you are not getting enough amplitude to make it all the way around.
Put on a helmet, work on your set up wake, and hit it harder/faster to get more pop.

Happened to my buddy on Lake St. Clair... Let someone he didn't know ride his ski with the lanyard wrapped around the handlebars. Somehow it got stuck wide open and he fell off... Took 4 hours to find the ski'.

Believe it or not once you get pass half way it stops hurting. Frosty is right perfect the set up wake and get more pop. Remember your trying it wip the back end around over your head. Listen for the clink of the turn plate hitting the steering stop.

It blasted off across the bay (which you can barely see land on the other side) and smashed into a sea wall head on then sank in a couple feet of water.
Just barely saw it poking out. Lucky for the bright green on the graphics!

no joke seein your ski take off with out you on it is one of the scariest things i can honestly say i had a episode were i was workin 70 hrs a week and in the mist of that went from single keihn to 40 dual mikunis and the cable was diff from the dual setup long story short showin off 94 sx no lanyard 2300 rpm idle fell off on a rodeo and it took off if it wasnt for pankake petes brother in law sean carter it probly would have injured some one he took off like a bat out of heel and smashed my ski towrds shore until it hit the beach then a tree and ran till it sucked up wood and died
