I got busy this weekend and decided to forgo running up the Summit store...it's about 50" away. I went local and got the 2part Rustoleum primer that I can spray with my gun. It's a high fill primer and should be easier to sand than the Awlgrip. I really like the durability of the Awlgrip though. I had tons of scratches and paint separation on the bottom of my Freak, but the Awlgrip was still tough as nails. I had about 4 deep gouges that broke through to the gelcoat so they required some heavy sanding to make look right. I'm gonna hit it with 2-3 heavy coats of primer and let cure for 24hrs (a little cool here in Ga today - 50's) in my garage, then hit it hopefully tomorrow evening with some paint. I was disappointed my paint decided to separate from the Awlgrip and I'm certain it was do to my poor scuff sanding prior to paint. I only sanded in one direction with some 180/220. In retrospect I should have cross-hatched my sanding with some 150 since my starfire/metallic hides alot of the deeper sanding lines. Live n learn should be tattoed on the side of every ski I own. Might make it my sig.
