Engine mod advice

First of all I would just like to say hello as im new to the forum and only been skiing for 2 years.
I live on a small island in the British Isles about 14 miles of the coast of france, at the moment im the only person in Jersey to ride freestyle so learning new tricks and mods is all down to help from forums like this.

Anyway I ride a 2005 Super Jet and I am after advice on what I can do to it to make it even better for freestyle including replacing engine parts etc..

Mods to date are. 1. Factory B pipe wammer mod.
2. ADA Heads
3. Wamiltons mats and footholds.
4. 12/17 solars impellor from wamiltons
5. X-Metal water box and front exhaust on the way i hope, need to phone them and see if they will send stuff to UK
6. riva flame arrestors.
7.dual bilge pumps
8. And a few other small things that do not add to the performance.

What I want to do is increase the overall power of the ski, what would be the best carbs to buy and what other things can I buy or send off to be modified to increase the power.

All suggestions very welcome. Go easy on me cos I don’t have a clue what porting and stuff like that means..

I order all parts from America as it is a lot cheaper and quicker at getting delivered than ordering from UK.

Cheers Scott

This has been discussed in the past, and I will stand by my previous posts: Get your cylinder (and cases) ported. That will be the biggest power increase you can get for a reasonable amount of money.

Just plain me....
I have no advice, because I have no expertise. I just ride! But you have come to the right place to get all the info you need. There are some great riders/mechanics here who will help you out. Welcome to the X....always cools to have international members:cheer:

Cheers, take it that i take out the above items from the ski and send them somewhere to have those things done rather than buy new ones ? I know nothing about engines.

Bigger carbs and MSD enhancer thing too ?

Yeah, you would send the cylinder/cases to a mechanic... "jr magoo" or you can try and do it yourself like some ppl do. I think its called 'sport port' template.

People on here will tell you to build your riding skill better and then start modding.

Upgrading the carbs will make it better, but I dont think I would upgrade them until you bore the engine to a 760. (Someone correct me if you see fit)

I think the most sought after carbs are Full Spectrums and Riva PowerBombs.

There are tons of information already covered on the site, Im still a newb and use the search button more than anything. It is your best friend here.

Build up my riding skill?, im number one in Jersey! But that could be because nobody else rides freestyle skis here!:frown:

The time has come to start adding some more serious Mods to my ski.

The search function helps buts it difficult to understand sometimes what people mean.

Sorry Matt, I 'll go against you on this one... ported cylinders do open a can of worms for most peaple as they generally don't have a clue on jetting and tuning ski motors! Please just stick to a stock motor (W/ADA head of course)for now with you out there by yourself. The newer stock Superjets have the needle adjusters plugged and will need to be drilled out to gain acess to them, but stock carbs will be fine. I have jetting kit I can send you to make them work. Advent CDI's work well and give you the timing curve that you need to work with the higher compression domes. A good igniton goes a long way... I wish I could have told you NOT to use a mod pipe chamber, as a limited chamber will work better for freestyle riding as you need all the bottom end you can get and the mod pipe gives some of that away.

No problem Chuckie....but with a reputable builder/porter, the jetting is mostly taken care of, right?
(And btw, that's what I meant...have it ported by a pro that knows what he's doing and can help you with that setup every step of the way!)

MSD Total Loss is a nice step towards more power, but they can be a nightmare to set up, just like jetting.

with that boat i would go for decent ignition system (digital System)

raise the compression and go for a set of 44s would be nice
however if you are thinking about going for a alot more in the future then stick with the 38s and wait because when you go bezerk on it later you will want a good set of 48 novi, specs, riva

one problem-if he is alone in Jersey who is gonna tune his ski, or work on it, or repair it when it breaks? better get some mechanical skills or become very best friends with a superwrench- FIRST!

You'd think so, but if you look at the 5 page thread in the driveline section on how to tune OEM 44's apparently it isn't.

Goatboy,

In the UK (as in the US) there are a small number of very experienced individuals that can correctly port and tune your freestyle motor to match anything you'll get from anywhere else, In my personal experience having dealt with many in the freestyle industry over the last 7 x years the following people have proven very knowledgable & delivered on there promise - I would trust them to provide an excellent porting service without question:

Chris - Queensford/ATP (www.airtimeproducts.co.uk)
Fred Exon - Sixhills www.sixhills-jetski.co.uk
Alan - Jetshed www.jetshed.co.uk

Jump on the car frerry, drive up the A34 and see Chris at ATP he's the closest - you'll be there in 2 x hrs max.. perhaps you could call him and ask if you can test ride his ski with the porting he does before commiting if you want.. A ported motor with all the bolt on's is useles unless its set up correctly - I've learnt this the hard way recently..

Good luck with whatever you do..

Scott,
You are not alone there is at least one other freestyler in Jersey we supply parts to and I can assure you we can get parts to you far quicker than getting them from the states. There are lots of possibilities with your ski give us a ring for a chat sometime.
Chris.
PS I lived over there for 6 months, beautiful place.

Cheers guys for all your replys.

Chris I will give you a ring sometime, once the winter draws in, I can always bring my ski over to the UK for mods. I better get saving!

The one other freestyler your talking about has only been seen once this year I will have to keep an eye out for him, all the other stand up riders are more into racing.

Cheers again
