i am going to replace crank seals in my 650 x2, the coupling does it come off counter close wise or is it left handed thread, i see in the manual it says to use a flywheel holder , which i dont have and wont get, i tried holding the flywheel bolt and using a old driveshaft on the coupling and heat no go , will try again later with some bigger wrenches, either this f------king coupling is coming off or i am breaking the sucker, i have some big wrenches being a boiler mechanic any suggestions??

Counterclockwise and heat it up I have had the best luck heating them. Do you have a chain wrench if so put it on there and give the wrench a smack with a big rubber hammer.

I used a flywheel puler (harmonic ballancer puller ) on teh flywheel and a large pry bar on both ends on the floor of the garage .. was worried i might break the alluminum coupler but i had a few spares .. spun of no big problems.. good luck

Use the wax trick, heat the coupler then take candle wax like flux to the threads, works like a charm.

this is what i do.
Remove a spark plug, and insert a rope right before the piston hits top dead center.... dont let it down the ports.

heat up the area surrounding the threads on the coupler....not too much that you melt your seals

use a large chainwrench or channel locks around the SOLID part of the coupler

it will come right off

I have a special piece of rope just to use as a flywheel holder. Sears sells a huge chain wrench that works great and it is pretty cheap.
