What are the tips and tricks that aren't in the manual?

Starting with crank case / top end assembly.

I will definitely be working slow and following the manual as this is my first complete rebuild of a yamaha pwc engine

Make sure you have a good torque wrench! If not start with a real low torque setting and slowly work your way up. Stripped 1 bolt and broke the head off another with an HF one.. Worse 9$ I ever spent.

And which is the right way? I always try to put the spring retainer to the outside so if it ever pops off, I can just put it right back on. It's logical but not necessarily correct.

I have the two coupler side seals both with spring facing out of the cases towards the coupler.

edit. just saw your post. i had the seal with the 4 tangs on the inner groove. i thought it was like a buffer to keep the spacing correct

Are there supposed to be washers between the wrist pin bearing and c-clips?

My oem 62t motor had them , took them out for my new 61x top end I got. I didn't use them .

there is no mention or picture of them in two manuals I am looking at. then in the third manual it shows picture that looks like it has them although there is no mention or identification.
