i was riding today at pismo and it was great! smooth water, great waves a lot of riders (for a normal weekend). Andrew and Coung, you guys missed out! it was goin off!

anyways i was just starting to get comfortable ridn and surfin on the face of bigger waves(approx 6-7 faces) i went up one and slahed the top. it was great smooth and everything was peachy. after completing the turn the wave was breaking and i was going down the face preparing for crossing the trough. i dropped my ass to near enema level and went for it. once again(!) i shot straight through the water and over the bars. i let off so i didnt nose it into the ground and luckily these were deep water breaks so i didnt hit.after the joys of bein tossed about violently in a large crashing wave i surface just in time to see my precious sj pop up upside down.

the point is, is this why you "need " tubbies in the surf? do they really help all that much? or is there something i can do different to try and keep the nose up? i dont think i need them if all they do is help in turns. any help/tips/info appreciated.

They make a big difference. With a wider nose you can go through steeper section. Not to mention the added grip on the wave face and a new element added to your turns.

With tubbies and a D cut plate it keeps the back end down and the front end up, you can slash a wave much harder and at a more critical point in the wave. There is still a point at which nothing will help you not nose stab.

ive definetly read that you turn much better with them but it just doesnt seem like that would justify 300 bills. i figur i can barely turn as it is and they wouldnt help me much. i guess im just bein cheap. luke monson said hedidnt even notice when he lost one so ifigured they cant do too much. but then again, hes a pro. i just dont wanna hit the bottom!

You can shape foam & add a couple layers of glass for 1/2 that.

so thaaats why you went home! lol
i dide the same thing a couple times today, one i rode out of no problem.

as far as im concerned, tubbies=slashes in steeper waves, easier. gotta learn where you can and cant go and sometimes the wave will pop up quicker and nose ya.
endo? subbing goin to fast!
face plant? stab, face first!
lawn dart? ehh beach dart!
whoopsy subs!
