Electrical Problem :(

Hey guys,
Just got home from a week long trip. Before I left for the trip I ordered up msd plug boots and terminals for my SN 701. Got those crimped on this morning, go to start and it just sounds like the starter is spinning. Figured it was just the battery, so I tried another battery and same thing. (This battery came out of a running ski). So its not the battery. After 5 intervals of pushing start and hearing the starter spin, the 6th time nothing happened. No starter spin, just one click. This happens everytime I push start now. Just one click and thats it. Any ideas? Im thinking the starter is bad. The weird thing is it started up fine before I let it sit all week.

Thanks, Kyle

Bendix was probably stuck and just spins in place without engaging the flywheel. Then it possibly finally opened and stuck open so now starter wont spin it now or starter or solenoid got fried from all the cranking with a weak battery. Pull plugs out to make it easier and see if it will turn over, but you will probably need to pull and inspect under the cover.

Interesting thanks. I tired cranking it again today (with plugs in) and I hear the whizzing sound/starter turning sound again. Weird...? Also the battery wasn't weak. When it first did all of this I immediately put in a known good battery. Any ideas now? Will probably be getting more parts from you again lol. @JetManiac

You hear the sound of the starter turning the bendix, but it is not opening up and engaging the flywheel then. If battery and cables are good and cranking speed is ok, then bendix is bad.

Think I found the problem

Brushes are all stuck.

Well I got it running. Cleaned brushes and got them unstuck. I ended up putting that whole back piece with the brushes and everything in the ultrasonic cleaner, then soaking in wd40 for awhile. Not sure how long it will last but hopefully it will get me through the summer. Thanks to everyone that helped.
