I buy off ebay often, but just sold something for the first time. Had it set up to accept paypal only. My item sold, and I received this emailed response from the buyer:

product item below on olx and i am really intrested in buying it for my Daugther as a surprise gift for her in school(Abti American University )at Nigeria and i will handle the shipment expenses.i will send you my fedex account so you will not pay no money for shipping.I will be sending you payment via PayPal,so kindly send me your PAYPAL EMAIL ADDRESS so as to immedaitely make out your payment and make sure you get the package ready for shipment, you can ship
the item as soon as you recieve the paypal confirmation.
Expecting your reply so as to immediately make out the payment
you can easily reach me on this number +xxxxxxxxxxx(edited)
Regards,

Sincerely

Shouldn't he just be able to pay off ebay/paypal since I have had a valid paypal account there for years? Why would he need to ask for my paypal email account? (or would he?)

He sounds like a really nice guy, with all the greatest intentions (complimentents, gift for daughter, church, lol).:bs2:

This sounds a little fishy to me.

You should reply to him, "For your security and mine, please use the eBay checkout form (through eBay) to make payment with Paypal as noted in the auction."

Hope this helps,

Joe

if number is a uk number +44 79xxxx
that is a redirected number (YAC).
You can open them for free and it will be redirected to whatever line you want anywhere in the world.

Hmm I'll fear the scam... I'll be carefull as once item is shipped via fedex if paypal claims the money back from you, you'll have lost everything. He certainly hijacked a paypal account.

Watch out imho.

"saw your product" -- he's running this scam so often he cant ever bother to be specific in the letter (or more likely he doesn't know english well enough to change it.) Tell him to go through ebay, and tell him you need to wait to verify the payment before shipping overseas.

Scam 100%. Dont even respond.

If your interested I know someone that is a illiegal alien that has a $4 million winning lotto ticket that he cant claim. He will sell it to you for just $20,000 if your interested.

You had to ask? Who goes to the UK for a church "seminal" anyway? Anyone that can afford to do that probably can spell on at least a 5th grade level.

I like to sometimes respond and keep them going for a while thinking I am all set with the deal. At least have fun and waste his time. But use a hotmail account or something.

BTW - he wants your paypal email address so he can send you a fake email from PayPal with a link to your account which will clearly show he paid you. Except that the site will be fake. I'd give him an email address just to see how authentic it is. And then send him a box of crap. Literally.

Worst part is, I had it as a Buy it Now. So the auction is considered closed. Now, I can't have his bid retracted. So I have to relist it again and pay listing fees again....Maybe it was someone that works at Ebay, trying to bump up the End of Month revenue numbers :sneaky:

Theoretically if they agree it was a scam, they might waive my re-listing fees. I'm not holding my breath.

Anyone want to bid on a factory refurb. 30GB Video Ipod, Black, still sealed in the box with all standard accessories??? :banghead:

PMs welcome :15:
