dry cell ? what battery are you running ?

Just bought a expensive battery today .. dry cell Odyssey PC625 12v
625 cranking amps first 5 seconds .. need a strong battery for the old school 440 with high comp and total loss ignition .. combine that with the inferior old style 440 starters and this battery should be perfect ..

they come with a full 2 year waranty and make many claims that should make it a perfect choice for a reliable battery ,, I have been using gel cells in some of my skis and regular acid fills .. I have one gel cell that is on its 5th year ,,
but though I would give this beauty a try ,,,

anyone using one ? good batteries ?

Yeah, just got my first one. Hard to tell about the cranking performance since I put it in my new build ski w/180+ psi. But it started it fine.

From what I have read they were good but now they suck. They break internally and Odyssey does not cover them. My local battery shop dropped them like a hot rock due to bikers complaining about them.

Interstate AGM for me for now.

if you tighten the nut on the battery post too hard they turn slightly and go dead because they lose connection inside...the posts on these batteries are weak and quick to spin if too much torque is applied...beware

suggestion use lock washers and only tighten very minimal.....

posts come up apart and it dies.
over charge and they die.

had 2 under warranty and they claimed abuse! bunch of BS they did not even have any marks or dings.

you are better off buying 2 Wally world specials and 29.99 and the best part is you will have a spare and you can bring it back ANYTIME.

on good note they do crank good IF they work. I NO LONGER BUY THEM!

I think I will be buying one of these gruber Batts as well, they are made in taiwan like the powersource units and look similar. My only other option is that walmart and I have been there too many times.

Actually it may be made in Vietnam?

I have heard a lot of good aboutthem .. some swear by them and say they have been using them for years .. others seem to be having problems with them .. well I will take care on overtightening the posts .. and I wil be sure to trikle charge so as not to overcharge .. but did you see the advertising it claims any rate of charge .. these batteries are supposed to be superior ,, I also bought off a reputable dealer .. he used has been selling me batteries for a while i once brought one back .. no reciept they checked it and seemd to be abd cell ( voltage seemed ok but wouldnt hold a charge .. ) they handed me a new one at the desk no questions asked ..
I will use this battery and let you guys know how it goes ..

and whenit comes to batteries like anything else proper use and maintenace go a long way ,,
pull them when not using for more than a month ,, trikle charge in the off season a few times .. treat a battery good and you dont need a new one every year .. I have a gel cell type that came in a used ski .. I have had it for 5 years , starting to get a little weak now but still starting one of my skis ,, I have also had a full size marine battery ( seasonal deep cycle) last over 12 years !

i run the odyssey pc 625 i've been through two of them and i've had an odyssey for a week. Worked great for the first day but then my first just died, ill have to see how this second one holds up.

Be sure and get a good charger with a specific setting for AGM batteries. They will get cooked if you try to use an old style regular charger that is designed for wet cell batteries.

my second odyssey died today. We've been using deka's at the shop, more cold cranking amps (265 v 275). I think that will be my next battery.

I have been liking my Dekas for years now. I have on that is going on 5 years and it still works great. I am currently using the ETX15L which is about 6 pounds lighter than stock. Still over 200 CCA and it seems to be working great.

buy the cheapest battery that will start your ski.

from the closest place to where you plan to use it, with the best warranty.

my own pc625 batteries have been GREAT for a few seasons now...

granted, I dont use a 1/2" ratchet to tighten the posts down, and I didnt buy them from an online ( no warranty) vendor..

my advice, is by the cheapest battery that will fit in the box, if its cheap enough, buy two of them, you are better off with two cheap batteries than one of whatever the flavor of the month ONE battery is.

I have been the cheapo route, and I hate getting stranded up river with a busted cell from a crap wally world battery. I learned my lesson long ago, and I will gladly spend $50 on a Deka AGM that will last for years rather than spend $30 twice and be pissed because I missed a day of riding or make someone else tow me back due to an avoidable situation. You don't need to buy the most expensive battery, just get a quality unit for a moderate price and all will be good.
