MARK44,does the epoxy actually grab the nylon blocks?i was under the impression that it wouldn't stick to it?

the stainless rivnuts are a little stiffer when you lock them but not impossible.

Yep 5/8" thick nylon inside the hull. Been installed for probably 7 years now.

are you useing a channel under your foam ?
i assume you have polystyreen
im in the process of a poly rebuild due to water
wondering if i should v the bottom to fit the chine or leave it _ with a channel to the drain outlet

My thought was to leave a channel,so there would be some area for water to collect.

What are you guys using to install these? I just ordered a set and I thought they would come wtih something to thread into the rivet nut and then allow me to use my rivet gun to compress them. I threaded a bolt in to it and then a nut on the threads that went all the way through and tightened it down with a wrench and it just wadded it up...not sure if it was because there was no surface to compress to. Just wondering what works best.

Edit: read the first page and noticed there's a special tool needed...can I mod my existing rivet tool to install these?

No,you have to have threadsetter type gun.But the method you used with a nut and bolt is the other way to do it.You may want to take a piece the same thinkness as what your trying to do go thru on your ski and see what went wrong.IMO it sounds like your rivnut was not long enough.

I figured. I'll figure it out with the bolt and nut then. I got the longest ones they make in aluminum with the knurled end. I believe it was for thicknesses of .20-.26...being about a quarter inch. I'll just goop it up really good with 5200 or cabosil to make sure it doesn't come loose.

Ok, heres my contribution...

I found these at my local True Value, I went through a lot of different options before I settled on this.

The key is the rubber expansion nuts, and the bonded rubber washers.

The bonded washer is a #12,
The stainless cap screw is 1/4x20 x 1"
The expansion nuts 1/4" x 3/4"

I drilled the hole witha a 21/64" bit but I had to 'wallow' the whole out a smidge.

This cost a grand total of $7 LOL...

1/4" Card board is standing in as the hull for this demo.

The washers fit tight, so I tried to thread them on vs slamming them over the screws.

When I put these on my ski, I packed a little silicone in the expansion nut hole to seal the threads.

I epoxied nuts into the hull. Then I used my countersink to create a little bevel on the outside and I use an o-ring on the bolt. I get so much water in there that I'm going to 5200 some versi-plugs in so it drains as I ride.
