Docking solutions

For those of you that live on the lake, how do you dock your stand-up?

My folks have a place on the lake and I would like to be able to store the ski when I go visit. Currently; I move their couch off the floating ramp, pull the 650 up on it, have someone help me pick it up and move it over to the floating dock.

I have seen a couple solutions. One was like a mini-ramp with a winch that tilted in the water and the lifted the ski out. Another was similar to an engine hoist.

I do not want to spend a lot of money, because I only come to the lake house a few times during the Summer. I would like to leave my ski near the water for the few days I do visit.

Your ski is very light. One simple solution would be to get a wench like off a trailer and a couple of 2x4s. Put the 2x4 at an angle on the floating dock so they are just bearly out of the water. Then just wench the ski up. It wouldn't be the prettiest but with a little handy work, it would be easy, and cheap. Actually, depending on how you attach it to the dock, you just just screw it down when you get there and remove it when you leave.

Depnding on your skill, you may not even need a wench. Ride it up then push it back down.

Personally, when I visit the lake, I just drag mine onto shore while we go onto the boat. It only has to be high enough that waves wont hit it. It's a lake, should be minimal rising water.

I live on a lake and keep mine on a lift. I found a small aluminum lift that I only paid $85.00 for. Made bunks and replaced the cable and it works like a charm. Not sure where you live, but a person can always find a good cheap lift around here.

I just drag up onto the beach usually.

in fact, they have been down at my dock, on the beach, for almost a month now.

the water has gone down, and they are COMPLETELY out of the water, so Ill be dragging them ALOT to get back wet again... haha

a slight ramp, up onto the normall walking area of the boat dock would do though, either ride it or winch it, and strap it down.

I had visions, and ideas of doing that, but then I deiced to spend the money on gas, and the time riding intead of building hooptyfied dock stuff.

:haha: In that case, I will definitely need a winch!!!

Seriously though, that is a good suggestion. My folks live on the main channel. Problems you deal will are that there is no "shore" to pull the ski up on and the lake can literally vary by a foot or more overnight. Not to mention the boats and skiers that don't understand the damage of wakes on a seawall. :dunce:

i just drive it up... i dident have a good place to put a winch, but after a few tryes its not hard to get the right speed and ride her on up. but a winch would never hurt when you come up short..

Our dock deck sits about 4.5' from the lakebed (usually knee deep water there) on the side nearest the seawall. Building a ramp isn't really an option. I was wondering is anyone has fabbed up a jib crane and if they have any pics of it. I want to be able to pick a standup up and put it on the deck then lift a couch up just out of the water for storage.

Here is the dock

and here is the type of jib crane I am considering but with a fixed position electric winch at the end
