Went out riding yesterday for the first time in a few weeks, and the water is definately getting chilly. I woke up this moring and it feels like I tore both of my shoulders. It was pretty choppy out there and spent most of the time trying to pull off rolls. Nothing different than normal, but damn I feel like a gorilla tried to yank off both of my arms!! Does anyone else hurt worse after cold water riding than normal, or is it just me from taking a few weeks off and hitting it hard without really warming up before rolling?

I rode in Lake Ontario today wearing a 2mm/1mm spring shorty...I'm definitely more stiff right now than in the middle of summer. Last ride of the year for me, I think...

Do it twice?That's DooDoo
I have noticed a difference in my arms in the past couple weeks as the water has gotten much colder in Ohio...

I stretch very well before riding every time... but I think my muscles and other stuff in my arms constrict in the cold water and then my ski stretches them out hard when I accelerate.... it hurts like hell after about 20 or 30 minutes of riding... then after about 15-20 minutes it goes away and then it isnt so bad for the rest of the day... still hurts a bit.... but not as bad...

it feels like it is kinda on the inside of the elbow to the very lower portion of the bicep... other than that its pretty much like riding in the warm water for me... I'm no more sore the next day than normal...

Remember to do active stretches(arm swings, pushups, lunges, etc...) rather than just static stretching before a ride. Those exercises get the body warm, and won't decrease your power production(google static stretching and how it 4 hurts power output b4 a workout).

Bottom line, warm up all joints, muscles b4 you ride using 5-10 reps per exercise. This can be accomplished with less than 10 exercises, as some will cross more than one joint. Remember, its just to get the tissue warm, so don't do too high of reps, stay in the range. Static stretch after if you so desire!!!

It's that funny stuff I was doing before I rode the last time. Unfortunately it did nothing to keep me from having a hematoma the size of Rhode Island on my thigh.

Oh yea, you fell down walking to the rest room after downing that 12 pack.

That was funny we all laughed.:headbang:

Just plain me....
good thing Rhode Island is not that big.

if it had been the size of, say, Connecticut - that would be entirely different
No, the Connecticut sized bruise is somewhere else.

Um yeah....I see you hit your head with a hammer again & can't keep your stories straight. You know it will catch up with you someday.
