foamrific, even.

I'm going to start on it today, first I will scoop out the bulk of the foam and get a rough shape.
Than I'll start sanding it smooth.

This might be the dumbest, most time consuming, costliest (could have foamed in at least one set of footholds with all that foam), a$$ backward way of doing the liner but if it works out I'll make more than one.

In fact, I might keep this hood as a mold for future liners (a carbon one would look nice if I ever get good enough with resins).

I'll be rich I tell ya,..rich.:arms:
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Thats going to be very messy. I wouldnt do it in the shop, thats going to leave yellow snow everywhere. My brother is making a plane out of pink DOW and when he was shaping it made a good 1/2 inch layer of pink foam dust everywhere.

I finally found some time to come back to this "foamastic hood" of mine and after about an hour and a half with a drill and a rust remover wheel here's what I got.

This is just a rough run through but I did put the hood on my ski and the foam easily clears everything.

Anyone knows how high is the highest aftermarket pipe ?

I still have a bunch of material that I could remove so I figured I might as well get it ready for any setup that might be out there.

romack,
you are 100% right but I want to make more than one liner.
One will be for a friend who is looking for a pipe on the cheap so who knows what he'll get.

chart,
what I am trying to do is go insane. I'm almost there.

Seriously, I want to make a mold for the inner liner of my hood.
I riped out the stock one (square nose hood) and had some foam left over.
Planing to work the foam into just the right shape that will give me the maximum strength, good drainage and a bunch of air space without interfering with anything mechanical.

Once the foam is shaped I will cover it with duct tape, spray it with a releasing agent and lay glass.

When the glass sets I will pop it out and destroy the foam.

Reinstall glass, add more layers and ride.

That's the plan.

Edwin, I already saw that one but thanks for the heads up.

Now that I see how much air space I will have I started thinking about cutting down the stock hood. Yeah, I know.

What's the height of an aftermarket hood, top of bond line to top of hood ?
What's the height from the top of the bond line to the hood seal ?

I have an idea.

:woot: I will have pics of what I did to my hood this weekend. The highest point on my hood is about 7"..."when hood is n the ground. I pretty much hacked off the top and part of the center, and all of the back. I will probably have 20-25hrs into the project when I am done. Alot of that time is just looking at it, and thinking. The next one I do shouldnt take near as long.:Banane01: My hood looks different then anything I have seen. You should be able to get some good ideas, so far I dont think I would have done anything different.

FL, get those pictures up ASAP !

Have Sawzall, will cut.

I don't mind at all if this hood ends up in the trash, they sell for almost nothing.
It's time for something different, maybe a new hood will keep the round nose riders from picking on us.

I used a dremel with a fiberglass/platic bit. It works awsome! From the pictures I have seen of all the different hulls/hoods online, I think mine is very low. It should be awsome, I still got some more work left, but I will have my freind post pics for me this weekend.

I think a Sawzaw would be a pain in the arse compared to a dremel.

is it just me, or does it seem reasonable that if the air baffle system could be worked out...that foam in the hood wount be a bad thing so long as it stayed dry....

DING, DING, DING,.......we have a winner.

Idok, I was thinking the same thing. No more sunken hoods and still enough air for the motor to breathe.

When the time will come to brake the mold and scoop out all that foam, I was thinking of leaving some in the nose up to the hand hold.
One layer of glass should keep it dry plus add some strength to the hook area.

Edwin, we all know that deep down you want a square. Don't worry, keep working up the "cool" points and who knows,............One day,..............
