Debating the issue: Defoam before footholds?

If it ain't broke, right?

Well, I will be installing footholds and reinforcing and have debating if I should defoam while I am at it. It is a new ski, 2005, but I could reinforce the gunwales and maybe add a scupper while I am at it. After seeing the cherry buster, I would love to try it without killing the ski (pole and hood excluded, those are excuses for upgrades which have not been strategically done).

Bottom line is, if it ain't broke don't fix it. But when I do need to refoam will removing the footholds be a bitch if I epoxy and glass them in and place biax across the tray?

i would reinforce it in the back too if you plan to BF and rolls the ski will last a lot longer this way. You will end up refoaming in a year or so and probably fixing cracks if you don't...just my .02 see what others say.

De-foam, sounds like a lotta work. If you can throw a roll you shouldn't need to reinforce the rear, and you dont need to get inside from there to install a scupper. Glass the footholds in good, glass the open spots on the firewall and don't worry about your foam again.

Also, pull the exhaust tube....... reinforce the hull on the back right side so it wont crack right there when you start learning rolls................

Do it right the first time, pay now or pay later.
Pull out old foam, not a hard job.
Seal the bond line from the inside I use epoxy resin for this.
Seal drive shaft tube, water lines, steering cable tube.
Seal the factory foam fill holes.
Reinforce rear sides.
Install drains.
Install scupper tube.
Install trim tube.
Refoam and install foot holds.
Quality only hurts once

That is my concern. Since I will be learning, which I may not have conveyed, I would prefer to reinforce not to repair.
