Daytona surf laws??

I am considering moving to the Daytona area.. I lived they ten years ago for a while and miss the weather. I was wondering what the laws where there as far as launching from the beach...ect ect. If you cant launch from the beach is there any launches that gets you to the surf without having to ride a ways? any Daytona info would be great. Thanks

daytona sucks these days! just moved out....been there 7 years....can't launch from the beach, almost have to go all the way to new smyrna. you can launch in the river and ride down to the inlet, but it's a haul. the one nice thing...WAVES ROCK!

I thought there were seasonal dates as to when you could drive/launch from the beach? During the summer months it was denied but late sept to may it was open again?

ya i recall hearing about that...but i think it is north and south of daytona....you can drive on the beach but not luanch from it?!?!

I am not dead set on daytona... New smyrna would be ok also.. Can you launch from there? I have also considered Melbourne? what about there? any info would be great, thanks again

you can also get to Ponce Inlet from the boat ramp on the south end of the Daytona strip/island all the way down by the lighthouse.

smyrna is way better! plus all the perks of daytona are only 20mins away(spring break rocks). Also there is a medium size blaster/standup crew in the area....i'm sure some one will pipe up soon....

i thought there is a riding area for jet skis only right on daytona beach? i was down there last july and there were flags on the beach that said jet skis only no swimming. is that not there anymore?

You're giving out bad info...... Go to the volusia beach pages listed above and you'll see that there is a shifting zone that moves around Daytona and one for New Smyrna. It's $100 for the year for a pass. The zones shift every 2 weeks in peak season and monthly in the off season so that you aren't parked in front of someone's condo or house for too long. Daytona is 7 days a week and the Smyrna zone is weekends and holidays. The Daytona side of Ponce inlet has a ramp to ride the inlet, but it's not something to do alone. I've done the beach break many times by myself in more mild surf. If you break down, you just ride the waves in.

Thanks for the info,, but on the county website it shows the zones but it says hours of operation is 9-5 weekend and holidays only????

You can launch from the beach, in the designated PWC Zones, 7 days a week, from 9am until 5pm ... as long as the beach isn't closed to traffic. It's $100 a year, and your boat must be registered, and legal. That means fire extinguisher on board, within acceptable noise levels, etc.

You must wear a helmet if you're launching off the beach, no exceptions.

You can re-fuel on the beach as long as you're not in the water. Bring the boat up on shore, as far as possible, and re-fuel.

I live in Orlando, and get out to Daytona probably 8 times a year ... was just there last weekend.

You must wear a helmet if you're launching off the beach, no exceptions.

You can re-fuel on the beach as long as you're not in the water. Bring the boat up on shore, as far as possible, and re-fuel.

When you say "Daytona", do you mean Ormond Beach, where we ride for the Freeride in January? Or someplace else?

Yes, Daytona may mean Ormond Beach if that is where the zone for riding happens to be. Some times during high tide there is no beach access and sometimes 4x4 's are needed because of soft sand. You may then wish to go South to Ponce Inlet (concrete boat ramp), just watch out for the radar revenooers.

So, if I want to ride for the day and come out there, where would I find out where the zone is on that particular day without wasting a bunch of time driving all over?

Start towards the bottom of the page where the schedule of zones is posted. Find what date it is for the day you want to ride and see what zone that is. September of 2009 (odd year) is zone O. Go up to the zone map and see where the zone is and look at the description for better info. It's not all that hard if you focus. The south zones are a bit different. They use actual dates for some reason instead of a standard rotation. Also, it'll take some serious sweet talking to get them to open the south zones on a week day. Daytona (north zones) is 7 days a week.

October and January are always where the Daytona ride happens. Zone A.
