Damaged OEM Yamaha Parts

I ordered an OEM Yamaha Impeller Housing part # 6R7-51312-03 and it arrived damaged. Partzilla exchanged it for no cost but the second part arrived looking worse than the first one. So same story, they send me another impeller housing. This one is the worst of all, the pets were all damaged in the same way. Can someone explain this to me?

I can't see super well what's going on there, but I'm guessing Yamaha doesn't consider that to be damaged, it doesn't affect the function of the part, and in an assembled vehicle it doesn't even affect the aesthetics of the vehicle.

In the world of oem parts, it has to work, it doesn't have to be shiny and fancy, in the world of aftermarket parts it has to be shiny and look nice but it doesn't have to actually work.

I guess the photo quality is not as good when you upload it. It looks like some sort of plating that is flaking and crumbling off of the end of the housing. It’s defiantly metal or plating. This should be the area that meets up with the pump seal so it may not be an issue but it looks bad and after all my years of experience building Japanese machines, I’ve not seen an OEM part that looked like this. But like I said, maybe it’s fine.

The stuff in the last 3 pictures looks like some sort of sealant rather than metal. Did you try scraping at it?

The first 2 look like some alluminum was scrapped off as the stainless sleeve was installed. I just bought a used wear ring and sandblasted it prior to painting and It had the same kind of melted alluminum looking stuff hanging over onto the stainless sleeve in a few spots.

I forgot to mention, there is no silicone or sealant on any of these housings. I also have not tried to install any of them. If you pick at the metal that is flaking, some of it will come off. Everything you can see in the pictures is metal even though it’s hard to tell. If I could upload a higher quality image it would be easer to see.

That is normal. It is left from the manufacturing process. You can cut off the hanging pieces if they bother you, but will not affect anything.
