crank seals wtf

my friend has a 701 that he just had the crank seal redone on and they have less than a tank or two of gas on them and he blew them out again. what could his problem be?:Thinkingof_:

the Yamaha book says to keep the outside of the seals dry and use grease on the center.

BTW, did you install a rebuild crank recently? I have seen the rear circlip on the rear bearing, be too big and not allow the cases to close properly and blow the rear seals.

Had to deal with that last weekend. It would fit, but it was really hard to get the dowel lined up to push the bearing down into the slot. Took some patience but we eventually got it to go.
 
Is he blowing both rear seals, or just the outside one? If it's just the outer one, they've probably been installed backwards.
