couch opinions

let me start by saying i have already purchased my standup for this season. i need two couches for family and guests. we want something that doesn't ride like a boat, most times just 1 rider. will be ridden on freshwater only, but the lake tends to get choppy. looking for something fun with good torque, but can handle rough weekend lake water better than my old vxr pro. i'm looking at this combo http://raleigh.craigslist.org/boa/647373721.html (99 ultra 150 and 00 zxi1100). thoughts on these skis and any others you think i should consider are appreciated!

The Ultra 150 is a fun sitdown and would fit the bill you describe. It is very fast, but turns flat.
If you're going to ride it 1 rider exclusively, look into a Blaster.

Maybe not the right combo for your purposes, they handle terrible, IMO.
The Ultra is good for doing 65mph in a straight line on glass, the ZXi in not even good for that. It is very easy to injure or kill yourself or others around on the Ultra for a new rider.

for guest and family blaster 2.... much more stable than the blaster one...big big food for thought get a twin cylinder w/ gas going to 4.00 gal... I know someone that burned 28 gals !! in one full day on a GP1200.....:261:

Seadoo XP ....everything you will need in a couch and more... :Banane26:

i have never owend a blaster 1 or 2, but from what i have read 2 would be your best choice, BUT, i still think XP would be a much more fun Couch....

OR... you can teach family and guest to.... STAND UP....:twak:

Good Luck

Do it twice?That's DooDoo
screw the family... get yourself another standup :).... j/k...

Get a blaster 2 if you want to be most versitile... get a blaster 1 if you want the most fun... but yeah- they do have a learning curve that spans at least 1-2 outings before real fun for most people...

Why avoid the PV motors, more power w/ good fuel economy is bad to you? Like to stick to WRIII's and be stuck in 1995?

The pv motors fail alot and when they do its very expensive - the cyl are nicasil so you have to replace the whole cyl. The 1200's are a pia to work on. I work at a shop during the summer - the majority of the ski's with motor rebuilds are either the seadoo or yamaha 1200s

I agree to some extent; I have rebuilt many 66E's and V's - but the failures can be prevented easily. Main problems on E's are the PV's, WaveEater clips solve that - main problem on V's is the rear oil line slippage, also very easy fix. I have never seen one fail that wasn't due to those 2 problems. Nicasil Plating is good technology and if failures are prevented, help bore wear. I really like the design of both PV motors, I find them very easy to work on.

WB1 is something i'm planning on doing for myself..once i get the vxr off the water...unmolested 701 that i've owned since 96!! good hull won't be too hard to find it seems like..

i was considering the kawi's because they aren't 4 bangers. the family and friends that will be riding will be responsible adults for the most part, so don't need to be too concerned. good handling is a key, not looking to go in straight lines for the most part. thanks so far..
