Corrosion in impeller housing UNDER wear ring??

Location

Folks, my driveline was locked last time I tried to go ride, killing my day on the water and making me very sad. :( boohooo ok now that's over.

i found my impeller was locked in its housing. Upon disassembly, I noticed bubbling of the wear ring. I filed it down to obtain proper clearance, until I could get a new part in. I found some serious corrosion BETWEEN the aluminum impeller housing and the stainless wear ring itself. Is this common? Has anyone ever seen this before? I don't know how water would get in there to allow that surface to corrode!

Thanks!

Thanks. After modifying my search wording, I found that post. I can't tell if the WSM and/or SBT wear rings are complete replacements, or just OEM parts with different liners pressed in? I believe my OEM housing is in decent shape, and would be useable with the corrosion cleaned up, if I could re-use it after a clean-up pass on the lathe. That is, if I can press in a plastic liner.

Has anyone else done this? I very seriously doubt if either manufacturer would release dimensional data on their liners to figure it out myself.
