i have for the better part of 2 yrs been chasing bugs in my ski.
i thought a lot of it was carbs ( and it was). Yet things just never ran as good as i had hoped

anyhow i finally got around to putting in an msd enhancer that i have had laying around.
the question is this

i have a 61x flywheel. what would a 62 t cdi make that ski run like?

i think that is what i had in the box, the part number starts 62t
what do you all think?:frown:

I have done this before. First you will have to make a jumper much like you have for the oposite when using an MSD enhancer. If you do this and run it the ski will hesitate bad off the bottom then operate normally.

so with the 62 t cdi i will have a hesitation????
perhaps that was my issue then all along
now i can't wait to get on the water and see

i hate buyng used stuff

Yeah, don't mix electrics. Either run a 61x cdi and stator or a 62t cdi and stator. If you run a 62t cdi with a 61x stator, right off the bottom when you first hit it, it will hesitate and nearly die then recover and run normal in the upper rpms. I tried it out of desperation at a show we were doing several years ago when I had a 61x cdi fail. The only backup we had was a 62t. Didn't work well but it did get us through the weekend.

The CDI will not make a hesitation. They work interchangably, except rev limit (not between X and T) and some connections)
Seriously - I don't how that would happen.

In fact, I run a T CDI on a 650 Stator, and it works great.

do they have different rev limits? how about the timing curves?

Timing curves should be damn near the same.

Rev limit is lower for a 6M6 CDI, identical between X and T.

Its not the stators that are not interchangable, its the CDI/flywheel combo.

A 6M6/61X CDI needs the 6M6/61X flywheel and are interchangable with each other, BUT the 62T CDI needs the 62T flywheel. I'm sure you already knew that.

Someone correct me here if I'm wrong.

Why? I am running a T CDI on an X stator just fine.

Are you saying running an X CDI on a T stator won't work?

What are you talking about?

The stator flywheel combo is not interchangable. The X stator will physically not fit into the T flywheel.

As far as I know, CDI's are indeed interchangeable. I run a 62T cdi on a 6M6 stator without problems.

However, I am trying to tune another motor that has a 61X cdi and a T stator.
It's giving me trouble, and I was assuming it's the carb. :dunno:

Haven't got into the specifics of the cdi boxes but knew about the physical size differences of the stator/flywheel. I KNOW for sure that the symptoms I described earlier are exactly what will happen. The week after the show I changed to an enhancer and it all went back to normal. Also several months later one of my guys with a 1998 sj had a cdi go out. we put the one that made my 61x electrics act stupid in his boat and it worked flawlessly. I can't tell you why only that this is what will happen. Try your enhancer and see if that doesn't eliminate your issue.

Unfortunately, my enhancer is toast. Damn thing will fire only once the start button is pushed and then when you let go.

You know....I've got to look through both my CDI's. I said earlier that I am running a T CDI on a 6M6 stator.

I need to verify that.
