Doing whatever you want. Carving, messing around, trying some tricks. Not specifically trying the same trick over and over and over again like you are in training. But just doing exactly what the word says. Riding around freely. That is how I have always interpreted it.

Didn't we have a huge thread about this last year?

Basically all the surf guys will tell you it's surf only, non-competitive, though they have competitive freeride competitions, so figure that out, and a good portion of the other riders will tell you it's just whatever.

Now, we have the 'freeride tour' which has FreeStyleFest as the longest running event, and it's mainly flatwater, and the Georgia ride which is all flatwater. So those shouldn't be included on the freeride tour by some definitions.

Anyway, make up your own definition, seems that everyone does...

freeride = surf
freestyle = flatwater/lakes

or

freeride = not competition
freestyle = competition

depends if you live near the surf... he he he..

I tend to like the first one myself, but the landlockers get all upset over that definition for some reason... who gives a ******** what it's called, just do it..
