Can ethanol be used in our skis?

With Ethanol being demanded more and more to get the US off of its addiction to oil I got to thinking if it would be possible for us to run our skis on an Ethanol/Gas blend or even straight Ethanol.

I know that Ethanol is more corrosive so seals and possibly fuel lines will have to be changed?!

I am definately not the engine guru in here so what would need to be done to our engines to make them ethanol compliant?

You'd need to rejet your carbs, you'd get worse fuel economy. Doesn't make any sense to me.

Yeh, I'm not saying I am going to attempt it... I just see GM and Ford coming out with E85 vehicles and I got to thinking how/if this could be adapted to a jet ski.

Ford's had them out for over a decade now. It's something, but I just don't think it would have any value for a ski.

and the ford's i've seen run on the e85 run like crap.

but that was after it had been run on standard 87 for a few yrs and then switched for a tank, so im sure the engine didnt like that too much. became hard to start and ran rough. straightened out after a tank or so of regular got back through it.

The newer ones are probably a lot better than the old ones, just think how far computers have come in 10 years.

I've never driven one of the FFV's (they call them Flex Fuel Vehicles) but you need more fuel volume if you're running the E85, so unless the engine can sense what it's getting fed, it'll probably run lean for a while.

I have no idea how it senses if it's getting gas or ethanol.

a diesel superjet would have ridiculous bottom end... and leave a huge cloud of smoke, plus you could just go to the neighborhood Chili's or Applebees and take their used oil off their hands for little if any cost

so what is the verdict?
Same here. derm just filled up and tried riding his two sxi's earlier this week and neither would run. One ran for a minute and a half and the other wouldn't start. Ideas?

They both won't run cause I think I sucked all the crap from the bottom of the gas station tank.

Are all the gas station in the U.S. emptying the tanks and going to ethenol? Or just Virginia.???

Any other states with gas shortage?, I had to drive to 8 stations this morning to find a station with gas.....
