I have a chance to buy a 550 and a 300 for $500. I want to leave them at my camp for people to use but I'm not going to drop the money if I can't ride one of them. I'm 6'3", 250 lbs, and have never ridden a stand-up before. Do you think the 550 would work for me?

But as an answer to your question......Try and try again. Your going to be really pushing it on that thing. But hell...give it a shot. The throttle will definately be your friend.

i say give it a try, be dedicated and don't give up. you can get some cheap mods, like a pipe and head to give it more power. if you have good balance and are athletic you should be able to get the hang of it.

good luck and rip it up.

I would not buy them and I surely would not by aftermarket parts for them. Just buy one nice ski (94-07SJ in my opinion) and make people share it. Just my opinion.

I would pass on the 550 !

Get a 650 Superjet or kawasaki if you need a cheap starter ski, the $$ you put in the 550 for extra parts will amount to the same just buying a bigger ski..

6,2 +-215 pounds rebuilt and rode many 440/550 's

I'd hate for you to buy it and it steer you away from a stand up ski... An SJ, Kawi 800, or Octane is a much more stable ride for someone your size...IMO

I'm not going to spend the money on a decent ski. Maybe I'll hold out for a 650sx but unless I stumble across a super cheap SN SJ, I don't think any of those ones you named are in my future. Superjets are non-existent up here. All the deals are in FL.

What's the difference in size between a 550 and a 650sx? Would a modded 550 be worth it to try or is the ski physically too small for me?

IMO, a 550 is not 'too small' for you.

I'm 6' and 203#. (gained 8# over winter. lol)

I learned on a 550. It's only mods were an AM pipe and dual cooling. She immediately got on step without hesitation. Turning was greatly improved by added an AP plate.

IMO the 550 is a great ski for just jerking around. You'll want something bigger for freestyling.

I don't plan on freestyling. Just want some toys to mess around with when we're not wakeboarding.

IMO, the 550 is perfect for tooting around. Dunno about the 300.

And since you're going to be leaving them at your camp, it won't break your wallet if they suddenly disappear or a tree falls on them. It'd still be a PITA.....
